Paris 2024: French fencer Ysaora Thibus, medal hopeful, escapes sanction after her positive doping test

The road to Paris 2024 is becoming clearer for Ysaora Thibus. The French fencer announced to AFP on Tuesday May 21 that the anti-doping disciplinary tribunal of the International Fencing Federation had not imposed any sanctions against her. Provisionally suspended after a positive test for ostarine at the beginning of February, the foilist was exonerated after successfully pleading the “contamination by bodily fluid” via his companion, a former high-level American fencer.

To support her defense, Ysaora Thibus called on toxicologist Jean-Claude Alvarez. The expert had previously helped tennis player Simona Halep to justify her positive doping test due to contamination of one of her food supplements, leading to a clear reduction in the sanction. The fencer is therefore still in the race to participate in the Paris Olympic Games this summer.
