Sky Sports reporter Ted Kravitz gets covered in cake presented to him by Ferrari for his 50th birthday… after the Italian team clinched a 1-2 victory at the Australian Grand Prix led by Carlos Sainz

Sky Sports reporter Ted Kravitz got covered in cake which had been made for him by Ferrari to celebrate his 50th birthday earlier this week.

It happened after the Australian Grand Prix in which Ferrari celebrated a 1-2 victory with Carlos Sainz recovering from his appendix surgery to finish ahead of team-mate Charles Leclerc.

It was a day where their rivals struggled with Max Verstappen’s dominance brought to an end by an early retirement, while the Mercedes pair of Lewis Hamilton and George Russell also failed to finish.

But it was a weekend to celebrate for Ferrari and Kravitz – who has been a pit-lane reporter with ITV, BBC and now Sky Sports since 1997.

In a silly moment after the race, a Ferrari employee brought out a cake for Kravitz during ‘Ted’s Notebook’, though some of it ended up on the face of the Sky Sports reporter who appeared willing for it to happen.

When seeing the cake he said: ‘Is this from Ferrari? Do you just want to do a little bit in my face?’

Kravitz then leaned towards the cake which was put in his face by colleague and Sky Sports F1 commentator David Croft who was standing alongside the Ferrari employee.

The Ferrari employee then jokingly suggested he would eat it off Kravitz’s face, before he and the Sky Sports congratulated each other.

Kravitz amusingly decided to keep the chocolate cake on his face for the rest of ‘Ted’s notebook’ – where he walks through the paddock and talks about how each of the drivers on the grid fared during the race.

The 50-year-old has long been a very popular member of the F1 paddock, though has had run-ins with Max Verstappen and Red Bull in recent years.

In 2022, triple world champion Verstappen accused Kravitz of ‘disrespect’, as he and the Red Bull team boycotted Sky Sports in protest at what they perceived to be bias against them.

It was understand Red Bull at the time were angry at Sky’s coverage since Verstappen pipped Hamilton to the title controversially in Abu Dhabi the previous year.

Team principal Christian Horner then suggested Kravitz was ‘talking out of his a***’ after the Sky Sports reporter claimed Verstappen was having issues with his car during last season’s United States Grand Prix.

It was a weekend to forget for Red Bull in Australia as their winning streak came to an end with Verstappen retiring with a brake issue and Sergio Perez only finishing 5th.

Verstappen now only leads the championship by four points to Leclerc, with Perez one behind the Monegasque and Sainz now 11 behind the Dutchman.
