L’Jarius Sneed agrees four-year, $76m contract with the Tennessee Titans after Andy Reid and Patrick Mahomes both wanted to keep cornerback at the Kansa City Chiefs

L’Jarius Sneed has agreed to a four-year, $76.4 million deal with the Tennessee Titans.

Sneed’s deal was reported by ESPN’s Ian Rapoport on Tuesday, four days after he was acquired by the Titans in a trade. The 27-year-old also secured $55 million in guaranteed money and a $20m signing bonus.

Sneed spent his first four years in the NFL with the Kansas City Chiefs, playing a vital role in their back-to-back titles in 2022 and 2023.

Unfortunately, Sneed had to part ways with the team due to salary cap-related reasons. With Sneed at the end of his last contract, the Chiefs permitted him to seek a trade and would then place a franchise tag to maximize trading him away.

In losing Sneed, the Chiefs received a 2025 third-round pick and swapped seventh-round picks with the Titans for the upcoming draft.

On Monday, Chiefs coach Andy Reid praised Sneed and expressed dismay over the cornerback’s departure from Kansas City. Reid also acknowledged the circumstances that led to his exit.

‘[He is] one of my all-time favorite guys,’ Reid told Paul Kuharsky of Sneed. ‘Great human being. As great a player as he is, he’s an even better human being. As tough as you can imagine. I’m his biggest fan.

‘You juggle the salary cap, it’s ridiculous what you have to go through,’ he added. ‘The players you can keep and the players you can’t keep. But we all loved him and that wasn’t the problem.’

Reid was not the only person in Kansas City who advocated to keep Sneed with the Chiefs. On Friday, quarterback Patrick Mahomes expressed the same sentiments as Reid. The three-time Super Bowl MVP spoke highly of Sneed while understanding the financial aspects of the trade.

‘I don’t have any say in that,’ Mahomes told Fox4KC at the 101 Awards. ‘I think you’ll hear from everybody on our team that we want Sneed. The player he is, that person he is. He’s one of those guys that’s hungry every single day.’

‘He’s not going to be the most vocal guy, not always yelling and screaming. But the mindset he has and that determination in how he practices, you see it every day. He leads those guys.

‘We want everybody to get their money. So, whatever happens, we’ll be excited for him. But hopefully, that’s with the Kansas City Chiefs.’

Sneed appeared in 57 games and tallied 303 tackles, 6.5 sacks, and 10 interceptions during his time with the Chiefs.

In Kansas City’s back-to-back title runs, Sneed had 75 solo and 33 assisted tackles, with three interceptions in 2022. This past season, he recorded 60 solo and 18 assisted tackles with two interceptions.

Sneed will join the Titans as they try to make their first playoff appearance since 2021. Tennessee finished fourth in the AFC South last season with a 6-11 record.
