Sheikh Al-Azhar": The name of God "Great" It indicates to us that He is Most High in Destiny and Great in Essence

His Eminence the Grand Imam Dr. Ahmed Al-Tayeb, Sheikh of Al-Azhar Al-Sharif, said that "The Great" One of the most beautiful names of God, in confirmation of the Almighty’s saying, “For judgment belongs to God, the Great, the Most High,” and the name “The Great” was mentioned. In two forms, the first is in the form of “the Great,” as it is in the noble verse, and the second is in the form of “the arrogant,” which is another of the beautiful names of God, adding that the name “the Great” It has three meanings: the first, which is great age, the second, which is high in value and great in essence, position, or stature, and the third, which is great, in the sense of huge or great in size. Of these three meanings, only the second meaning is suitable for the exalted essence, which is high in value, great in position, and stature.

The Sheikh of Al-Azhar explained, in the seventeenth episode of the “Imam Al-Tayeb” program, that the first meaning, which is old age, cannot be imagined with the Almighty because it requires him to say That God did not exist and then He was, or you say He was small and then He became great, and this is a change that does not befit the Divine Essence, for God Almighty is eternal and has no beginning. Then the second meaning is the Huge, and it is also not befitting of the Almighty, because it involves an analogy to humans, for He is the Most High. About that, then the meaning of "big" For Him, God Almighty is the one who precedes everything that exists and is supreme in greatness, attributes, and actions.

The Sheikh of Al-Azhar affirmed that the one who meditates on the Arabic language finds it extremely diverse and rich, but unfortunately its people have lost it. Especially the new generation of young people, whose abandonment of the Arabic language resulted in a severe weakness in their thought and culture, expressing his astonishment at the currently exaggerated interest of many people in mastering the English language, which is like a poor and tattered language compared to the Arabic language, which has a lot of richness and diversity compared to other languages. The other, stressing that weakness in the language is a weakness in preserving identity, declaring: “I say this from experience, as I learned the French language, and every time I read it I was amazed at the great disparity between it and Arabic, but others are keen to promote their languages and take pride in them.” We find centers for teaching French, English, and German everywhere, unlike centers for teaching Arabic, which are few and rare.”

His Eminence the Grand Imam concluded by saying that language is an art, and it has all the elements of attraction, especially for the younger generations. It is not only for the language, but it has attraction. of culture, customs and traditions, and whoever learns a language learns with it the culture of its people, and the Prophet, peace and blessings of God be upon him, encouraged us to learn languages by saying: “Whoever learns the language of a people is safe from their evil.” However, this does not mean that the foreign language overpowers the mother tongue, and that it is dominant. But we have to teach our children the Arabic language first, then teach them other languages, and teach them the Qur’an when they are young, because that will straighten the tongue and enrich their linguistic sense.
