Princess Anne’s son Peter Phillips gives rare insight into his mother’s love of ‘home time with Tim and the family and the dogs’ – as he praises her ‘remarkable’ work ethic
Princess Anne’s son has shared a rare insight into his mother’s ‘home time’ in a new interview.
Speaking to Sky News Australia, Peter Phillips fondly discussed the Princess Royal’s fondness for being with her loved ones amid a hectic schedule which sees her turning around ‘overseas trips in 24 hours’.
The King’s sister – who is often called the ‘hardest working royal’ and carried out 457 royal engagements in 2023 – has been dubbed ‘remarkable’ by her eldest child.
‘Her mindset is, “listen I can go in do what we need to do and come back”,’ he told the programme.
‘She really values her home time and values her time with Tim and the family and the dogs and the horses and that’s a really important part of the structure of her week.

‘To be able to actually relax and just get to get to some form of normality.’
Peter, 46 – who is a managing director for SEL UK, a boutique sports management company – praised his mother’s tireless work ethic and humble attitude.
‘She’s she’s still doing trips overseas and turning them around in 24 hours – which is pretty hard on most people, doesn’t matter what age, but when you’re when you’re in your 70s and doing that.
‘She’s always just kept her head down and she’s kept supporting the organisations that she wants to support.
‘They may not be the the most interesting, the most, you know, on topic as it were – but for her that doesn’t matter.
‘She’s not there she’s there to support them and grow the organisations and help them develop.
‘She’s never been one that really worries about how many column Iines she gets.’
Princess Anne was the hardest working member of the royal family last year, carrying out 457 royal engagements, 32 more than King Charles.

According to an analysis of public events and official meetings by the Sunday Telegraph, the King ranked in second place, with 425 engagements, while his wife Queen Camilla came in fourth with 233. The Duke of Edinburgh was third with 297 engagements.
These engagements included events such as the Coronation on May 6 and the King’s state visit to France in September.
The Princess Royal and the King saw their workload increase in 2023, as they took on many of the duties and engagements previously conducted by Elizabeth II.
In the same interview, Peter revealed that King Charles is in ‘good spirits’ but his recovery is taking a ‘little longer’ than expected.
He said that Charles is ‘hugely frustrated’ he isn’t able to get out and do everything he wants to do.
But Peter added that his uncle is ‘pragmatic’ and knows he needs to ‘focus on himself’ for a while to get better.

Visiting Australia as a patron of charity ISPS Handa, he said that Charles is ‘pushing’ his staff to let him resume more royal duties, contrary to the advice of his medical team.
He told the news channel: ‘He is in good spirits but ultimately he is hugely frustrated.
‘He’s frustrated he can’t get on and do everything he wants to be able to do.
‘But he is very pragmatic, he understands there’s a period of time he really needs to focus on himself.
‘But at the same time he is always pushing his staff and everybody – his doctors and nurses – to say ‘can I do this, can I do that’.
‘I think the overriding message is he is obviously very keen to get back to a form of normality and he’s probably frustrated that his recovery is taking a little longer than he would want it to.’
He added that the Princess of Wales is ‘remarkable’ amid the news of her health battle, and said her and William have ‘got it right’ in balancing their public life and family life.
