The Minister of Higher Education chairs the meeting of the Board of Directors of the Scientific Research City

Dr. headed Ayman Ashour, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, meeting of the Board of Directors of the City of Scientific Research and Technological Applications, in the presence of Dr. Yasser Refaat, Deputy Minister for Scientific Research Affairs, Dr. Mona Mahmoud Abdel Latif, City Manager, and Dr. Gina Al-Feki, Acting President of the Academy of Scientific Research and Technology, and Dr. Walid Al-Zawawi, Secretary General of the Council of Research Centres, Institutes and Bodies, and Dr. Walaa Sheta, CEO of the Science, Technology and Innovation Financing Authority, and distinguished members of the Council, via video conference technology.

 

At the beginning of the meeting, Dr. confirmed. Ayman Ashour stressed the importance of integration and cooperation between Egyptian universities and the centers, institutes and research bodies affiliated with the Ministry, in light of the future plan of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, whose axes are based on 7 main principles: (integration, interdisciplinarity, communication, effective participation, sustainability, reference). International, innovation and entrepreneurship); In order to serve the achievement of comprehensive development in the geographical regions to which the research centers and universities belong, and to achieve mutual benefit between the two sides.

 

The Minister explained the importance of the role of the City of Scientific Research and Technological Applications, in working to support Efforts to develop the scientific research system, through improving research performance, innovation outcomes and societal impact, as well as providing training, consulting and technology transfer services to production and service agencies in Egypt, in addition to implementing applied projects to develop performance in several areas to serve the national economy, as well as continued cooperation with national institutions. And international in the field of development, transfer and localization of technology.

 

Dr. pointed out. Ayman Ashour stressed the importance of linking the research product to industry, directing scientific research to serve society, and confronting the challenges facing economic growth, stressing the importance of the societal and service role of those centers and institutes, especially in the fields of industry, agriculture, health, technology localization, and other priority areas to serve sustainable development goals. And its role in supporting industry and transforming research ideas into products with economic returns for society, explaining that applied scientific research is the foundation of industry.

 

Dr. emphasized. Ayman Ashour emphasized the importance of working to increase local industries, and cooperation between centers, institutes and research bodies through regional alliances that were signed between higher education institutions and productive and industrial institutions at the level of the regions of the Republic. With the aim of achieving a development boom in different geographical regions, enhancing scientific and research cooperation between universities, the industrial and business community and productive institutions, and employing the capabilities of academic and scientific institutions. To serve all development needs facing geographical regions, while developing joint programs and projects that contribute to enhancing innovation, technological development, and economic growth.

 

For his part, Dr. stressed. Yasser Refaat, Deputy Minister for Scientific Research Affairs, said that among the goals of establishing the city is to use all its research units and scientific and service facilities to develop and disseminate technology in various scientific and service production activities for the scientific community in Egypt, within the framework of the Research City’s endeavor to achieve the axes of the National Strategy for Science, Technology and Innovation 2030. Especially the axis of scientific research, the education industry, and scientific culture, to achieve the axes of the national strategy for higher education and scientific research.  

For her part, Dr. confirmed. Mona Mahmoud Abdel Latif, Director of the City, said that the City of Scientific Research and Technological Applications seeks to achieve an increase in the rates of international scientific publishing, noting that scientific research published internationally, through the City, in scientific journals listed among the classified international scientific periodicals with a high impact factor, has received great attention in terms of View and cite it, as well as its contribution to improving the city’s ranking in all international classifications, noting that in 2023, 494 international scientific papers were published (129 papers in the agriculture and food axis, at a rate of 26.11%, and 158 papers in the health and population axis, at a rate of 31.98%. There were 73 papers in the field of technological applications and future sciences, at a rate of 14.77%, 26 papers in the water field, at a rate of 5.26%, 46 papers in the field of energy, at a rate of 9.31%, 40 papers in the field of environment and protection of natural resources, at a rate of 8.1%, and 22 papers in the field of information technology, communications, and space. By 4.45%), in light of the strategic plan that was developed to double scientific publishing of applied research to gradually improve the scientific research system in a way that contributes to improving international indicators in global classifications of universities and research centers.

 

She indicated that the city won third place in the patent index at the level of institutes, bodies and research centers as the best research center and body in the Arab Republic of Egypt, in terms of the number of patents for the year 2023, during the activities of the Seventh Cairo International Innovation Exhibition 2023, noting that the city won third place. In the MOSAIC competition for the best Egyptian universities and research centers in innovation and cooperation with the industry sector for the year 2023.

The meeting witnessed a review of the activities and achievements of the Research City for the year 2023, and the council also discussed a number of topics related to the affairs of faculty members in the city’s various departments, in addition To review several projects produced by the city for the year 2023, including: manufacturing and marketing the first research product to come out of the city (a developed product that works as a highly efficient biofertilizer for agricultural crops and is environmentally friendly and supports sustainable agriculture and organic agriculture in Egypt), as well as manufacturing and marketing biocompost fertilizer from natural materials. extracted from converting organic waste into environmentally friendly enhancers, as well as a project to produce marine collagen for use as a nutritional supplement and cosmetic product from fish waste, in addition to discussing several other topics related to the city’s work.
