Monterrey stun Inter Miami as Lionel Messi watches fellow Argentine Jorge Rodriguez snatch a 2-1 win for the Mexicans in Champions Cup quarterfinal first leg

Inter Miami suffered a late collapse at home to Monterrey on Wednesday night as a sensational strike from Jorge Rodriguez saw the visitors snatch a 2-1 win in the first leg of their Champions Cup quarterfinal.

Miami took the lead on the night through Tomas Aviles and looked a good bet to hold onto their lead, only for youngster David Ruiz to be sent off with 25 minutes remaining for a slap on Monterrey’s Maximiliano Meza.

After his moment of madness, the Mexican side capitalized by first equalizing through Meza moments later, and then sealing the victory when Rodriguez fired home a stunning late winner as fellow Argentine Lionel Messi watched on.
