On Friday evening, the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs statedwhich considers the meeting in the Armenia-US-EU format, which took place on April 5 in Brussels, as an attempt by Western countries to drag the South Caucasus into a geopolitical confrontation.

Moscow believes that the United States and the EU are seeking Armenia’s withdrawal from the Collective Security Treaty Organization and the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), as well as the withdrawal of the Russian military base and border guards. Statement of the Russian Foreign Ministry published Kommersant publication.

The Russian Foreign Ministry called on the Armenian authorities “not to let the West deceive itself and lead the country down the wrong path.” People on Smolensk Square believe that the grant support promised to the Armenian side cannot compare with the “multi-billion-dollar benefits” that Armenia continues to receive from interaction with Moscow and within the EAEU and the CIS.”

On Friday, negotiations took place in Brussels between the head of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan.

At a joint press conference of the three politicians, von der Leyen announced the allocation of 270 million euros to support business and industry in Armenia over four years. She called the plan “a new and ambitious agenda for cooperation.”

In early April, Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan announced his country’s intention to deepen relations with the European Union and the United States.
