Hezbollah leader judges "inevitable" Iran’s response to Israel after strike on Iranian consulate in Damascus

Cairo: Hani Kamal El-Din

Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah ruled “inevitable” an Iranian response to the strike attributed to Israel on the Iranian consulate in Damascus, which left 16 dead, in a televised speech on Friday April 5. “Be sure and certain that the Iranian response to the strike on the consulate in Damascus is inevitable”declared the leader of the Lebanese movement, ally of Tehran and Hamas.

Seven Iranian soldiers, including two high-ranking officers, were killed in a strike on the Iranian consulate in Damascus on Monday. Iran immediately accused Israel, which did not confirm its responsibility. According to Hezbollah, the strike on the consulate constitutes a turning point in the ongoing war in the Gaza Strip.

Hezbollah “does not fear war and is fully prepared for any war” against Israel, warned Hassan Nasrallah in his speech on the occasion of Al-Quds Day (Jerusalem), which is held every last Friday of Ramadan in solidarity with the Palestinians and against Israel.

Hezbollah carries out daily attacks against Israel from southern Lebanon to support its Palestinian ally and Israel retaliates, raising fears of the conflict expanding.
