A rare total solar eclipse plunges vast areas of North America into darkness

Washington, April 9 / WAM / The North American continent witnessed a rare total solar eclipse, which plunged vast areas of Mexico, Canada and the United States into darkness in broad daylight.
The American space agency NASA broadcast a live broadcast of the total solar eclipse, as it launched from the state of Virginia in the eastern United States three test rockets before, during and after the eclipse, with the aim of measuring the changes resulting from darkness in the upper part of the Earth’s atmosphere and the ionosphere, where a large portion passes. of communications signals.
The total time during which the moon’s shadow crosses over the three countries in North America during this phenomenon is approximately one and a half hours.
A total eclipse occurs when the moon is completely positioned between the Earth and the sun, temporarily blocking sunlight in broad daylight.
The sun is about 400 times larger than the moon and 400 times farther from the Earth, so the two stars appear as if they are the same size.
Residents of areas outside the total eclipse range, which is 185 kilometers wide on Earth, were able to see a partial eclipse.
