Employment of seniors: negotiations between social partners end in failure

Three and a half months of negotiations and a probable impasse. On the night of Tuesday April 9 to Wednesday April 10, the unions noted the failure of the talks between the social partners on the employment of seniors, following a final 48-hour session. Their reaction suggests a probable rejection of the final version of the agreement proposed by the employers.

These discussions, initiated after the adoption of the pension reform, were to make it possible to realize the “life at work pact” called for by Emmanuel Macron, and to help employees stay in their jobs longer, while the legal retirement age will be gradually increased from 62 to 64 years.

The government had set the objective of moving to an employment rate for 60-64 year olds of 65% “by 2030”against 36.2% in 2022. The agreement was to be “a reflection of what was expressed during the social movement on pensions”explained for his part the CFDT negotiator, Yvan Ricordeau, in February.

The final version of the draft agreement sent to the unions by the employers’ organizations on Tuesday does not create “no new rights for employees”reacted the same Yvan Ricordeau, whose union is decisive for the adoption of the text. “There is no new right, there is less destruction [de droits] than expected, but above all major shortcomings”insisted the FO negotiator, Michel Beaugas. “We will list the pluses and minuses: there won’t be much more”declared Denis Gravouil for the CGT.

Reactions which suggest a rejection of the draft agreement, while the governing bodies of the five unions represented in the negotiations must decide in the coming days. Negotiators from the CFTC and the CFE-CGC have indicated that they will argue against the text.
