Austria: Negotiations with Russia are a prerequisite for peace

Vienna, April 11, 2017 – Chancellor Karl Nehammer, Prime Minister of Austria, confirmed his conviction of the necessity of negotiating with Russia in order to end the war in Ukraine.

Nehammer said that “negotiations with Russia are a basic condition for peace,” and that “there cannot be peace without them,” stressing in a press statement that ending the ongoing war is only possible through dialogue with Moscow.

He pointed out the importance of finding ways to communicate again, expressing his concern about the possibility of losing the ability to control the current situation, and said: “It is possible that this war will become larger and uncontrollable.”

The Prime Minister of Austria pointed out that many of the taboos in supplying ammunition and weapons to Ukraine, which now include tanks and combat aircraft, have been abandoned compared to what was done in the beginning. European support was provided with ammunition and defensive weapons.
