Soha Gendi: Egypt has achieved great success in combating illegal immigration

The Minister of State for Immigration and Affairs of Egyptians Abroad, Ambassador Soha Gendy, confirmed that Egypt has achieved great success in the file of confronting illegal immigration, as it was able to stop the departure of these immigrants from its shores and is working to provide successful alternatives for young people, as part of training efforts for employment. In cooperation and coordination with various state institutions and ministries, in addition to the private sector, civil society, and international partners.

 

Minister Soha Gendi explained, in a special statement to the Middle East News Agency, today, Friday, That the Egyptian state dealt with this issue decisively and comprehensively; It not only addressed this issue from a security perspective by controlling and monitoring the coasts, but also addressed it socially, culturally and economically, especially thanks to the “Survival Boats” initiative. Which was launched by President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi at the conclusion of the third edition of the World Youth Forum in 2019, in addition to working to develop local communities and raise awareness among young people and families in the governorates that export the most illegal immigration, to preserve the lives of our youth and provide them with a decent life.

 

She added that this presidential initiative, which the Ministry of Immigration was assigned to implement in cooperation with the relevant authorities, had a major role in reducing this phenomenon in our country, as it aimed to provide community awareness, while providing safe alternatives to Training and job opportunities at home and abroad for young people in the 14 governorates that export the most illegal immigration, in various fields of work, after studying market needs and working to meet them.

 

It reviewed Minister Soha Gendi, as part of these great efforts made by the Ministry of Immigration to combat illegal immigration within the framework of the “Survival Boats” initiative: She, in cooperation with the National Council for Women, implemented “knocking on doors” campaigns. Dozens of public meetings were held in villages and hamlets. To educate families about the danger of illegal immigration to their children, and to provide training and qualification programs for vocations, and job and entrepreneurship opportunities for young people in coordination with the relevant ministries and institutions, in addition to encouraging small, medium and micro enterprises and honoring successful models, so that they become a positive example and role model for young people.

 

The Minister highlighted the visits she made to a number of governorates that export illegal immigration to meet with young people and families in these governorates and officials in each governorate, in order to assess their needs and provide support, guidance, and awareness of the dangers. Illegal immigration, stressing that confronting illegal immigration is an integrated process, starting with studying the roots of the problem and working to provide the best solutions that can be applied, through educating young people and providing safe alternatives, as well as delivering societal messages to eliminate this phenomenon, and not risking the lives of our children at sea.

 

The Minister of Immigration touched on the major role played by the Egyptian-German Center for Jobs, Immigration and Reintegration, which was established by a presidential decision to support the Egyptian component of the global project “Migration for Development.” With the aim of contributing to the safe and orderly migration movement, by raising awareness of the dangers of illegal immigration, and assisting those who wish to obtain opportunities to immigrate outside Egypt.

 

Ambassador Soha Gendi continued, in this In this regard, the Center provides advice and guidance to find the right career path for our youth in their homeland, and provides job and training opportunities for skilled Egyptian workers according to the needs of the German, European and Egyptian labor markets as well, as part of the Ministry’s efforts within the framework of its work on the file of training for employment, as well as to integrate returnees from abroad into society. Egyptian economically and socially, as the center, in cooperation with the German side, has provided dozens of training courses and counseling and awareness sessions for thousands of young people, since its launch.

 

She stated that Egypt has succeeded in eliminating the departure of migrant boats.

 

The Minister warned that the effects of the phenomenon of illegal immigration are reflected in all societies, and therefore everyone must cooperate to achieve sustainable development goals and involve young people in the construction journey. Therefore, the Ministry of Immigration is keen to invest in safe immigration, which is what the Egyptian leadership seeks to promote and support. , in various ways, which is what the Ministry is working on in its strategy to adopt and develop executive frameworks that guarantee its continuity and success.

 

Ambassador Soha Gendi concluded by stressing that the Ministry of Immigration is fully prepared to provide advice. And assistance to everyone who wants to benefit from Egypt’s strategy to confront irregular migration, saying: " We are also keen to be open to various work experiences and integrate efforts that preserve people’s lives and fulfill their aspirations and dreams. We seek to spread the training file for employment as a national priority and as a unified mechanism that enables our youth to compete at the global level and raise their training capabilities to enable them to obtain the best employment opportunities in Egypt.
