 The Commission for Ex-Prisoners’ Affairs and the Palestinian Prisoners’ Club announced, this evening, Saturday, the martyrdom of detainee Abd al-Rahim Abd al-Karim Amer (59 years old) from the city of Qalqilya in “Hadarim” prison.

 

The authority and the club explained in a joint statement that “there is no clear information available until this moment about the circumstances of the martyrdom of the detainee Amer, knowing that the Israeli occupation forces arrested him.” He and his son are from the city of Al-Tira in the Triangle area within the 48 Territories, after they went to look for work on March 17th, and he was sentenced to one month in prison under the pretext of entering the 48 Territories without a permit.

 

 

The authority and the club mourned, “The detainee Amer, a martyr for a living, a father of seven children, who was elevated to the Hadarim prison, to be added to the lists of our martyrs of workers who are subjected daily to operations of abuse and torture.” And detention, prosecution and arrest.” The statement added that “the occupation, after October 7, arrested thousands of workers and carried out unprecedented torture against them,” pointing to “the widespread arrest campaigns to which Gaza workers were subjected in the 1948 territories and the West Bank.”

The statement explained that “with the martyrdom of detainee Abdul Rahman Amer, the number of detainees who were martyred after October 7th rose to 16, including three workers, two from Gaza, in addition to the martyr in general.” . The authority and the club held the occupation fully responsible for his martyrdom, “at a time when it continues its genocide against our people in Gaza, and its comprehensive aggression, using all its systematic policies to target our presence, and to harass our people with all systematic means and tools.” In a related context, the Governor of Qalqilya Governorate, Major General Hossam Abu Hamda, on behalf of the governorate’s official and popular activities, mourned “a martyr for a living, the detainee Abd al-Rahim Amer, the son of the city of Qalqilya, who rose as a martyr inside Israeli prisons.” In turn, the Secretary-General of the General Federation of Palestinian Trade Unions, Shaher Saad, confirmed that the occupation government bears responsibility for the martyrdom of worker Abdel Rahim Abdel Karim Amer inside the occupation detention centers. Saad explained in a statement that the occupation forces arrested the worker, Amer, and his son. More than a month ago, while they were in the city of Tira, within the 48 territories, under the pretext of working without a permit. Saad stated that the Israeli occupation forces arrested more than 150 workers within two weeks, the most recent of whom was a number of workers at the Al-Zaeem military checkpoint east of occupied Jerusalem, today, Saturday, as they entered the city. Saad said that the occupation forces have been pursuing and chasing workers inside the 48 territories at their work sites and at checkpoints, despite having permits, since the seventh of last October.

 

 

 

Saad described the prosecution of workers as a crime that does not  It can be ignored, “The Palestinian worker who is looking for a living pays (1,500) shekels for his entry to the permit brokers, without paying attention to the security authorities of the occupation government, which deliberately obstruct the workers’ work and arrest them under false pretexts.”   Saad called on the International Committee of the Red Cross, the International Labor Organization, the International Trade Union Confederation, and all international institutions that sponsor human rights, to intervene immediately and urgently to put pressure on Israel, the occupying power, to release the workers, and not to attack them while they are heading to their workplaces, stressing However, international agreements and covenants guarantee the Palestinian worker the right to work within the 1948 territories, and to be treated with full rights like a foreign worker.
