Abu Dhabi, April 18 / WAM / At the conclusion of its participation in the Paris International Book Fair 2024, Trends Research and Consultations launched a new, original book in the French language entitled “Dismantling Stereotypes About the Islamism of the Egyptian Brotherhood,” as part of its endeavor to spread knowledge and enhance a deep understanding of the phenomenon of political Islam. .

This came in a symposium held in the heart of the French capital, Paris, in the presence of Senator Nathalie Goulet, a member of the French Senate, and a group of media figures and researchers, and it was moderated by Abu Dhabi Media Company journalist Hamid Al-Maashani.

The book – written by Dr. Wael Saleh, an expert on political Islam at Trends, and Professor Patrice Brodeur, an associate lecturer at the University of Montreal in Canada – provides an analysis of the phenomenon of Islamism from a critical perspective that includes 18 common wrong assumptions in some Western academic circles about Islamism.

The book highlights the fallacies of these assumptions and stereotypical ideas, reveals their contradictions with reality, and aims to present a new understanding of Islamism away from simplification and reductionism, dismantle stereotypical ideas about it, provide a critical reading of the ideas of some Western researchers sympathetic to Islamism, and stimulate discussion about it between the Arab and Western worlds.

Dr. Wael Saleh, an expert on political Islam at Trends, said during the symposium held at the Napoleon Hotel in Paris to discuss the book: “The book represents the result of the work of three years of study, and comes within the framework of the Trends Center’s endeavor to understand and analyze the phenomenon of Islamism from an academic perspective supported by documents.” Not published before.”

For his part, Professor Patrice Brodeur, associate lecturer at the University of Montreal in Canada, said that the book represents an important scientific contribution to understanding the phenomenon of Islamism, provides a critical analysis of it from an academic perspective, and helps dismantle stereotypical ideas about this phenomenon.

In turn, Professor Michel Younis, General Coordinator of the University Platform for the Study of Islam, stressed in his intervention at the symposium that the book is important at the educational level, because it aims to dismantle stereotypical ideas about the Brotherhood, and fills a gap in the literature on Islamism.
