Kit Zauhar Lands North American Distribution For SXSW Competition Title ‘This Closeness’ Via Factory 25, IFC Center To Launch Theatrical Run

EXCLUSIVE: Brooklyn-based indie film distribution and production company Factory 25 has acquired North American theatrical rights on writer-director Kit Zauhar’s sophomore feature This Closenesswhich debuted at SXSW 2023.

The film will begin its theatrical run at the IFC Center in New York City on June 7, with further engagements and a worldwide digital release on Mubi on July 3.

The film stars Zane Pais (Margot At The Wedding) and Ian Edlund with Zauhar also starring as she did on her first feature Actual Peoplewhich debuted at Locarno in 2021. Factory 25 also released that film. Actress and singer Jessie Pinnick (Princess Cyd) and multimedia artist Kate Williams round out the cast.

Following SXSW, This Closeness screened at the Philadelphia Film Festival, the Champs-Élysées Film Festival, and the Seattle International Film Festival, where it received a special jury mention for best ensemble cast in the New American Cinema Competition.

This Closeness is produced by Ani Schroeter (Between The Temples). Executive producers include Pais, Kyra Nicole Rogers, Gia Rigoli for Discordia, Pierce Varous for Nice Dissolve, and Rhianon Jones and Tristan Scott-Behrends for Neon Heart Productions, the independent production company best known for Emma Seligman’s Shiva Baby and Amanda Kramer’s Give Me Pity!.

The deal was negotiated by Grady for Factory 25 and Tristan Scott-Behrends for Neon Heart Productions.

Factory 25 was founded in 2009 by Matt Grady. The indie label’s credits include Andrew Bujalski’s Funny Ha HaJoe Swanberg’s Art Historyand Being Frank: The Chris Sievey Story by Steve Sullivan.
