Signing of the 2024 cooperation plan agreement between the League of Nations and the regional office of UN Women

The League of Arab States signed the “Social Affairs Sector – Women’s Administration” With the regional office of UN Women, a cooperation agreement regarding the 2024 action plan to implement cooperation programs between the two sides.

 

The agreement was signed on behalf of the Arab League by Ambassador Haifa Abu-Ghazaleh, Assistant Secretary-General of the League of Nations, President Social Affairs Sector and the Regional Office of UN Women, Dr. Susan Mikhail, Regional Director of UN Women in the Arab Region.

 

Ambassador Haifa Abu Ghazaleh praised the cooperation between the Arab League and the United Nations.

 

In her speech, Abu-Ghazaleh said that this agreement is specific to the 2024 action plan to implement cooperation programs between the two sides, which began with the signing of a memorandum of understanding in 2016.

Abu Ghazaleh added that cooperation between the two sides takes place through various programs that are part of cooperation that began with UN Women since its establishment. The most important of these programs is the (Women, Security and Peace) program, which is one of the successful programs through which the Arab Women’s Strategy for Security and Peace and other strategies were developed. Arab countries and reports on Arab countries in this file, which are conducted every two years.

‏She added that there are other cooperation files with the United Nations Women, including the file of combating violence against women, and there is cooperation in political files, and we will begin cooperation with them in Economic file.

‏She expressed her happiness at the presence of an Arab woman, Dr. Sima Bahouth (former Assistant Secretary-General of the League of Arab States), at the head of UN Women for the first time.

She said that the woman The Palestinian Authority is a top priority for the League of Arab States in all its sectors, including the social affairs sector, noting that the League will witness in the coming days a series of meetings regarding the repercussions of  The war on Gaza, including its repercussions on Arab women.

‏She said that the League of Arab States gives priority to the issue of women in conflict areas, as  She worked with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees to develop a strategy to combat violence against women in asylum areas.

For her part, Dr. Susan Mikhail, Regional Director of UN Women in the Arab Region, expressed her pride in the cooperation with the Arab League, which began 2016; It has deepened over the past years.

Mikhail  To the suffering of women in conflict zones in the region, especially what is happening in Gaza, where ten thousand women were killed, including six thousand Palestinian mothers.

 

Mikhail thanked Ambassador Haifa Abu Ghazaleh for her role. In supporting women’s issues in the Arab region, pointing to the achievement of great achievements in the women’s file between the United Nations and the Arab League, such as networks of women peace mediators, the emergency committee, and expanding cooperation in the field of women’s economic empowerment.

‏She said that this cooperation is taking place between organizers. They share values, principles and strategic directions with regard to women’s rights.

‏She added that despite the challenges facing women’s issues in the region, there are good opportunities, and they are opportunities that we seek to benefit from in cooperation with the Arab League.
