The European Union welcomes Kazakhstan’s comprehensive political commitment to reforms

The European Union welcomed Kazakhstan’s comprehensive political commitment to reforms… expressing its readiness to work towards the full implementation of the Enhanced Partnership and Cooperation Agreement (EPCA), including further strengthening cooperation in the field of human rights and the rule of law.

 

The European Union’s External Action Service stated – on its official website a few hours ago – that this came during the fifteenth annual human rights dialogue, which was recently held between  The European Union and Kazakhstan, in the Kazakh city of Astana.

The European Union also welcomed the early parliamentary elections held by Kazakhstan last year and encouraged the country to take further measures to enable a pluralistic and competitive political environment in line with OSCE recommendations. Europe and the Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights, as well as the Union welcoming the recent signing by Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev of major legislation on the criminalization of domestic violence. 

 

The European Union stressed the need to ensure implementation The European Union stressed the importance of working to protect and promote the rights of children and persons with disabilities. Civil society, human rights defenders, lawyers, trade unionists, and journalists… stressing the need to guarantee the right to peaceful assembly and freedom of association, and encouraged Kazakhstan to achieve tangible progress in this regard.

 

The Union expressed The European Union in particular expressed its regret at the Kazakh authorities’ refusal to allow peaceful demonstrations on the occasion of International Women’s Day, stressing the importance of freedom of expression and media.
