In Israel, the head of army intelligence resigned due to a Hamas attack.

Cairo: Hani Kamal El-Din

The Israeli military announced on Monday the resignation of the head of the Intelligence Directorate of the Army General Staff, Aharon Khaliwa. The reason for his resignation is said to be miscalculations related to the deadly attack on southern Israel in October last year by militants of the Hamas group, which is designated as a terrorist group by the United States and the European Union.

Khaliwa is the first such high-level official to leave office due to Hamas’ unprecedented attack on Israel. About 1,200 people became victims of the terrorist attack, and over 240 more were taken hostage.

The Israeli military said in a statement that the chief of staff accepted Khaliwa’s resignation request, thanking him for his service.

As the agency notes Associated Pressthe resignation of Aaron Khaliwa may be followed by other personnel changes in the security services of Israel, which, after the Hamas attack, has been waging war against this group in the Gaza Strip for the seventh month.
