In opening statements at his historic trial, prosecutors told a jury in New York how Trump worked alongside his lawyer and the editor of a tabloid magazine as part of a criminal scheme to suppress information about his personal life in the run-up to the 2016 elections.

As the former president sat at the defense table with his eyes occasionally closed, prosecutor Matthew Colangelo told jurors that Trump lied “over and over again” in his quest to win the White House.
