Operations at Dubai International Airport return to normal

Dubai, April 23 / WAM / Dubai Airports announced that it has succeeded in restoring operational operations at Dubai International Airport to normal, after diligent efforts were made to deal with the repercussions of the heavy rains that the United Arab Emirates witnessed, which is considered the heaviest since… 75 years.

Paul Griffiths, CEO of Dubai Airports, confirmed that it was able to return the flight schedule at Dubai International Airport to its normal path faster than the previously established time plan, as the airport is currently operating at a rate of 1,400 flights per day.

Griffiths said: “With the roads leading to the airport and its surroundings completely free of water accumulations, all our facilities, workforce and logistics services have returned to operating normally again and at full capacity. We have faced great challenges as a result of the heavy rains, as 2,155 flights were canceled and 115 other flights were diverted.” But thanks to our tireless efforts and close cooperation with our partners, we were able to reschedule flights, strengthen the workforce, and provide assistance to all travelers affected by flight cancellations or delays, in order to ensure their comfort and safety.”

He praised the team spirit that prevailed in the Dubai Airport community, including the dedicated Dubai Airports employees, airline partners, government agencies and service partners, and said: “We have witnessed exceptional weather conditions, and our employees and partners have worked tirelessly to keep operations running as much as possible and assist guests, and we would like to We would like to extend our sincere thanks to everyone who contributed to returning things to normal quickly and efficiently.”

It is worth noting that 31 flights were diverted to Dubai World Central (DWC) to ensure the continuity of passenger flights, and by April 19, support had been successfully provided to all guests at the airport so that they could continue their trips.

Griffiths added: “Guests’ well-being remained our top priority throughout the period, and despite initial challenges in transporting supplies due to road closures around Dubai International and Dubai World Central airports, Dubai Airports was able to distribute more than 75,000 snack packs to affected passengers across both airports.” .

He pointed out that there are some remaining challenges, including dealing with the accumulation of luggage, and stressed the close cooperation with service partners to address these challenges, while recognizing the need to make more efforts, expressing his thanks to the guests for their patience during this period. Griffiths added: “We are fully aware of the ongoing impact of heavy rainfall on affected communities and businesses across the UAE, and we are deeply saddened by this. We also affirm our support for our employees who have been significantly affected by the weather, and we will continue to provide assistance to them in any way we can.”

With the resumption of normal operations, Dubai Airports advised guests to arrive at the passenger terminal only three hours before the departure time of their flights to avoid unnecessary crowding and facilitate the smooth running of operations.
