In the US, the judge presiding over Donald Trump’s hush money trial on Tuesday fined ex-president for 9 thousand dollars. At the same time, it was said that the possibility of imprisoning Trump could be considered if the politician continues to violate the non-disclosure order.

The fine includes one thousand dollars for each of the nine statements Trump made on the Internet. Judge Juan Merchan said the comments violated his gag order, which was put in place to prevent Trump from criticizing witnesses and others involved in the trial.

Merchan noted that a fine may not be enough as a deterrent. At the same time, the judge complained that he did not have the authority to impose a more severe punishment.

This is the first criminal trial in US history against a former president. Donald Trump, who is seeking re-election as head of the White House, is accused of falsifying business records in order to influence the outcome of the 2016 presidential election.

The object of the charges in the trial is, in particular, the payment of 130 thousand dollars to porn actress Stormy Daniels for her silence regarding an intimate relationship with Trump, in which they are believed to have been a decade earlier. Trump denies an intimate relationship with Daniels, as well as accusations of illegal use of campaign funds.
