Courtois returns to Real Madrid after an absence of 268 days
Belgian goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois returns to Real Madrid against Cadiz in the Spanish League, after being absent for 268 days after suffering a cruciate ligament tear. The match comes in the 34th stage of the competition, which may decide the title in favor of the white club, if it is defeated. Cadiz and Barcelona could not win against its host Girona.
Real Madrid tops the standings with 84 points, 11 points ahead of second Barcelona, and 13 points ahead of third Girona. Courtois will participate as a starter in the match, after sustaining a tear in the cruciate ligament in his left knee during training on August 10. When he was close to returning to the field, he suffered another injury to the cartilage in his right knee, last March.
Real Madrid will play the match with a squad devoid of many key players, before the second leg of the Champions League semi-final against Bayern Munich on Wednesday.
Coach Carlo Ancelotti kept on the bench, goalkeeper Andrey Lunin, defenders Antonio Rudiger and Ferland Mendy, midfielders Toni Kroos, Aurelien Chouamini, Federico Valverde and Jude Bellingham, in addition to strikers Vinicius Junior and Rodrigo.
