Tennis: after Carlos Alcaraz, Jannik Sinner withdraws from the Masters 1000 in Rome
Preparing for Roland-Garros is not a long, quiet river for Jannik Sinner. Already withdrawn from his quarter-final at the Master 1000 in Madrid this week, the Italian will now miss the entire one in Rome, as he announced on his X account (ex-Twitter), Saturday May 4. This is the second major withdrawal for the Roman tournament, after that of Carlos Alcaraz on Friday.
Winner of the Australian Open at the start of the year, the native of San Candido has been suffering from his right hip since the Master 1000 in Monte-Carlo and confided that he made this decision in agreement with his medical staff. “It is not easy to write this message, but after speaking again with the doctors and specialists about my hip problems, I must announce that unfortunately I will not be able to play in Rome.“
Among the favorites to win the next Roland-Garros, Jannik Sinner expressed his sadness to his fans on his social networks, he who had to play at home in the Eternal City. “EObviously, I’m very sad that I didn’t get over it, it’s one of my favorite tournaments of all time. I couldn’t wait to come back and play at home in front of the Italian crowd.” Although he has not announced a resumption date, he has already set his next course for Paris: “Now I will work with my team and my doctors to be ready for Roland Garros. See you soon.“
