"Hate speech in sports pages".. A master’s thesis by researcher Ahmed Kilani at Mansoura University

Researcher Ahmed Yahya Kilani, a journalist at Akhbar Al-Youm, discussed his master’s thesis on hate speech on sports pages on social media and its role in sports fanaticism among the public.

 

It was achieved The researcher received a master’s degree with an excellent grade, with honors, from Mansoura University, Faculty of Arts, Department of Journalism and Mass Communication, under the supervision of Professor Dr. Reda Abdel-Wajed Amin, Professor of Journalism and Publishing, Dean of the Faculty of Information, Al-Azhar University, and Dr. Muhammad Fathi Younis, Lecturer in the Department of Mass Communication, Faculty Arts, Mansoura University, and the dissertation was discussed by both  Professor Dr. Sami Al-Saeed Ahmed Al-Najjar, Professor of Journalism, and Head of the Department of Media at the Faculty of Arts, Mansoura University, and Professor Dr. Osama Abdel Rahim Ali, Professor of Journalism and Educational Media at the Faculty of Specific Education, Mansoura University.

 

The problem of the study is related to hate speech on sports pages on social media and its relationship to sports fanaticism, as the researcher noted the change that has occurred in Egyptian society in the recent period, the occurrence of many violent incidents as a result of sports fanaticism that has spread recently, and the dangerous role played by the sports media, in particular, And sports electronic pages, and the exaggeration, excitement, and exchange of accusations they present.

 

The study seeks to monitor the content and content of sports pages, and its role in reducing hate speech and manifestations of sports fanaticism instead of fueling them. Especially with the growth of sporting trends and tendencies, and with the increasing intensity of competition between sports clubs, especially popular ones, and the enthusiasm that accompanies that competition in the process of encouragement and rush towards a specific club or player.

The study recommended the necessity of reconsidering the issue. Sports fanaticism, not as a problem of violence and rioting in sports stadiums, but with a deeper and more comprehensive view, and trying to solve it with the combined efforts of all institutions in the country, because it is an important issue that has caused national disasters such as the Port Said incident, and containing club fans and directing young people to healthy sports encouragement, and adhering to the concept of sportsmanship, Honest competition between clubs, spreading the spirit of tolerance among them, and the interest of all sports pages in publishing issues and events aimed at building a culture of tolerance, accepting others and resisting sports fanaticism in all its forms.
