Indonesian officials said during their participation in the activities of the trade mission that Dubai and the United Arab Emirates constitute a destination for Indonesian companies in the Middle East, as it is a global financial and logistical center with efficient policies that attract business.
They pointed out that the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement signed by the UAE and Indonesia has had a direct impact on the development of trade exchange, and that it contributes to doubling trade exchange and investment over the next few years.
Didi Sumedi, Director General of National Export Development at the Ministry of Commerce of the Republic of Indonesia, confirmed that the economic trade agreement between the UAE and Indonesia had a significant impact on trade exchange and investment between the two countries, pointing to the tangible impact over the past months and since the activation of the agreement.
He said in a statement to the Emirates News Agency, WAM, on the sidelines of the event organized by the Dubai International Chamber in the Indonesian capital, “There has been a significant growth in trade exchange between the two countries during the past two years,” pointing out that the total intra-trade reached $4 billion in the past two years. 2021 and has grown today to exceed $5 billion, of which non-oil trade amounts to about $4 billion.”
He expected that the comprehensive economic partnership agreement would contribute to doubling trade exchange between the two countries within a few years.
Regarding the main areas that will lead the growth of trade exchange between the two countries, he pointed to many things, including steel, chemicals, fertilizers, plastics, and paper products.
For his part, Pradana Indraputra, Senior Advisor to the Minister of National Entrepreneurship Development Affairs at the Ministry of Investment in Indonesia, said, “Indonesia and the UAE enjoy a strong relationship, and the UAE has become one of the most important investors in Indonesia at the present time,” noting that the UAE is at the forefront among Middle Eastern countries in terms of direct investment. “In light of its diversified investments in many sectors, especially renewable energy.”
He added, “We have 17 companies coming from Dubai, and more than 70 companies from Indonesia participating in this event, which contributes to the exchange of information and provides access to opportunities for both sides, as well as opening the doors to direct cooperation between companies through the bilateral discussions and meetings that the event witnessed.” .
Regarding the challenges that are being removed in order to attract more foreign investments, he explained that the challenges are different between investments coming from Asian countries and investments coming from Middle Eastern countries, for example, pointing out that Middle Eastern companies prefer acquisitions rather than establishing businesses and starting from scratch. For her part, Shinta Wijaja Kamdani, Vice President Coordinator for Maritime, Investment and Foreign Affairs at the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, said that the UAE and Indonesia have many commonalities and at the same time complement each other, noting that the two countries are working to advance their economies to consolidate their position on the The regional and global arenas.
