A decision to organize plant production farms for small farmers in Abu Dhabi

Abu Dhabi, 7 May / WAM / The Abu Dhabi Agriculture and Food Safety Authority issued a decision regulating vegetable production farms for small farmers in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, in continuation of the Chairman of the Authority’s Board of Directors’ Decision No. 3 of 2020 issuing a system of agricultural requirements for farms.

The decision is an important step to regulate the practice of plant production on vegetable farms for small farmers and to achieve sustainable agricultural development by maintaining the sustainability of natural resources on farms, improving the income of farm owners, and supporting the local product, which contributes to strengthening the food security system in the emirate.

The decision sets clear rules for practicing plant production on farms, which contributes to improving the quality of local agricultural products, increasing the competitiveness of the local agricultural product in the market and helping to increase the return on agriculture.

The decision also provides small farmers with a clear regulatory environment to practice plant production, improves marketing opportunities for local products, and encourages the consumption of local products, which contributes to the development of the agricultural sector.

The decision specified conditions and controls for harvesting and trading plant products for small farmers’ farms, including maintaining general cleanliness on the farm and its facilities and obtaining official approvals before establishing packing houses. It also requires the use of materials approved for food when processing plant products. The decision also stipulates regulating the use of The commercial name of the farm, documenting the agricultural operations carried out on the plant product, providing records showing the quantities of production disposed of, as well as providing a tracking system that ensures the identification of the plant product.

Engineer Ahmed Khaled Othman, Executive Director of the Agricultural Affairs Sector at the Abu Dhabi Agriculture and Food Safety Authority, said: “This decision confirms the Abu Dhabi government’s commitment to supporting small farmers and providing a work environment that supports their efforts to achieve sustainable development in the agricultural sector in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi and enhance food security.”

He stressed the commitment of the Abu Dhabi Agriculture and Food Safety Authority to provide all forms of support to small farmers to enable them to develop their farms and increase productivity, explaining that the Authority works to provide advanced guidance and training services to farmers to help them apply the best agricultural practices and improve the quality of agricultural products, and supports scientific research and development in the agricultural field to develop Modern agricultural techniques contribute to increasing production and improving the efficiency of resource use.

He expressed his confidence that this decision will have a significant positive impact on the agricultural sector in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi and contribute to achieving sustainable development and enhancing food security.
