"National Human Rights Committee" Participates in the annual meeting of national institutions in Geneva

Abu Dhabi, 9 May / WAM / The delegation of the National Human Rights Commission concluded its participation as an “observer” in the annual meeting of the Global Alliance of National Human Rights Institutions, which was held in Geneva during the period from 6 to 8 May of this year, with the presence and participation of 80 national human rights institutions. , in addition to representatives from United Nations agencies and civil society organizations.

The Commission’s participation as an “observer” comes for the second time in a row, based on its commitment to supporting basic human rights and promoting equality and justice without any discrimination, in line with the universal human rights goals and the Paris Principles regulating the work of national human rights institutions.

Through its participation, the Commission sought to exchange experiences and develop effective strategies to improve human rights standards, by expanding the scope of cooperation with participating national institutions and relevant United Nations agencies.

The Global Alliance of National Human Rights Institutions, in partnership with the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights, also organized a conference entitled “Business: The Role and Experiences of National Human Rights Institutions,” which focused on the need to strengthen sound policy measures that define the responsibilities of companies to respect human rights, in addition to related discussions. Environment, climate change and the impact of modern digital technology on human rights.

The Global Alliance of National Human Rights Institutions stated, in its final statement, that the “institutions” affirmed their commitment to joint work and strengthening partnerships within the global network of the Alliance, through the exchange of information and best practices on protecting human rights related to business.

On the sidelines of the meeting, the delegation of the National Human Rights Commission, headed by His Excellency Maqsoud Cruz, Chairman of the Commission, held bilateral meetings with a number of prominent figures, including Mr. Vladlen Stefanov, Head of the Department of National Institutions and Local Mechanisms in the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights, and Ms. Katharina Rose, Representative Head Office of the Global Alliance of National Human Rights Institutions in Geneva, Mr. Keren Fitzpatrick, Executive Director of the Asia Pacific Forum of the Global Alliance of National Human Rights Institutions, His Excellency Moushira Khattab, President of the National Council for Human Rights in Egypt, and His Excellency Sultan bin Hassan Al-Gamali, Secretary-General of the Arab Network National Human Rights Institutions and the Secretary-General of the National Human Rights Commission in Qatar, His Excellency Dr. Rashid bin Hamad bin Humaid Al Balushi, Chairman of the Omani Human Rights Commission, His Excellency Eng. Ali Ahmed Al-Darazi, Chairman of the National Institution for Human Rights in Bahrain, and His Excellency Samar Al-Hajj, President of the National Center for Human Rights Human Rights in Jordan, His Excellency Richard Ba Balal, Chairman of the Human Rights Commission of the Philippines, Ms. Rabiya Agha, Chairman of the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan, and Ms. Simiti Lafay, Member of the Human Rights Commission of Sierra Leone.

The delegation also met with His Excellency Ambassador Jamal Al Musharrakh, Permanent Representative of the UAE to the United Nations and other international organizations in Geneva, at the mission’s headquarters.

The meetings of the Commission’s delegation covered a wide range of topics, including enhancing cooperation and exchanging experiences and best practices in the field of human rights.

The delegation included members of the Board of Trustees and the General Secretariat of the Authority, including His Excellency Dr. Fatima Al Kaabi, Vice President of the Authority, His Excellency Dr. Ahmed Al Mansouri, Chairman of the Committee for Promoting a Culture of Human Rights, His Excellency Mohammed Al Hammadi, Chairman of the Civil and Political Rights Committee, and Her Excellency Amira Al-Saridi, Chairman of the Committee Economic, social, cultural and environmental rights, His Excellency Dr. Zayed Al Shamsi, Chairman of the Legal and Legislative Affairs Committee, Her Excellency Fatima Al-Badwawi, Chairman of the Complaints, Monitoring and Field Visits Committee, His Excellency Dr. Saeed Al-Ghafli, Secretary-General, Dr. Ismail Al-Balushi, Director of the Support Services Department, and Mrs. Fajr Al-Haidan, Head of the International Affairs Department, Mr. Abdulaziz Al-Aubthani, Head of the International and Regional Organizations Department, and Ms. Fatima Rashid Al-Hosani, Head of the International Relations and Communications Department.
