The VERY humble life of the ‘head of Fashion Week’: After waltzing up runways and living large at The Langham, we reveal the photos diva stylist Jamie Azzopardi DOESN’T want you to see

‘I’m Jamie. I’m the Head of Fashion Week.’

With those eight words, celebrity stylist and self-described ‘nomadic gypsy’ Jamie Azzopardi burst onto the scene as one of the biggest personalities in Australian fashion.

It was an after-party during last year’s Melbourne Fashion Festival. Azzopardi, who uses they/them pronouns, was caught on camera raging at a woman who’d tried to enter a private booth at Bar Bambi.

‘This will end badly if [you] don’t move! This will end badly!’ he shouted over the music. ‘I don’t know who you are… I’m Jamie. I’m the Head of Fashion Week..

‘I don’t care. I don’t care who any of these b***hes are.’

Despite their lofty claim, Jamie was not on the board of Melbourne Fashion Festival, but that didn’t stop them. Indeed, they are still doing it.

At Australian Fashion Week, Azzopardi was waltzing around Sydney’s Carriageworks  like they owned the place.

After finding themselves stuck in the media pit at last year’s AFW, the controversial influencer made sure they were front and centre this time around.

This was evident from the flood of agency photos filed of Azzopardi wearing all manner of outrageous outfits, basking in the spotlight on the front row, and mingling with models and celebrities.

We understand they spent some of this year’s event at The Langham five-star hotel, likely styling their coterie of young models for the runway and street-style pap walks.

But we also heard whispers Azzopardi’s usual digs were a little more down-market…

Or should that be a lot more.

Industry insiders tipped us off that the so-called ‘Svengali of Fashion Week’ actually lives in long-term budget accommodation in Sydney’s eastern suburbs.

This was confirmed in a 2025 government document, so we sent a snapper round on Wednesday night and confirmed it on camera.

Azzopardi spied our snapper and hit the roof, taking to Instagram to remind us how it is ‘NOT OKAY’ to take photos in public.

Quick – somebody better tell the press pack at Carriageworks!

Now, there’s no shame in staying at the sort of budget hostel that Azzopardi calls home (for the time being).

In fact, we reckon they have scored quite a deal.

While it’s no Langham, a single person can stay in one of the 36 ‘generous’ rooms for $340 a week, if they don’t mind sharing a kitchen and a bathroom.

The venue is in-demand too, with no vacancies for the next three months when we called to check.

But if you do check in to the boarding house, which we have chosen not to name, be prepared for a long residency because there is a four-week minimum stay.

'I'm Jamie. I'm the head of Fashion Week,' Azzopardi had infamously screeched during last year's Melbourne Fashion Festival in footage that was widely shared among industry insiders

It comes after Azzopardi made a hell of an entrance at Fashion Week on Monday when they arrived in a bold white gown that resembled a wedding dress, along with no less than four assistants in tow.

A year earlier, they’d caused a similar stir by rocking up with an entourage of minders, prompting one critic to ask, ‘Do [they] think [they] are at the Met Gala or something?’

When Daily Mail Australia contact Azzopardi for comment, they denied living at the accommodation, saying: ‘No, I don’t actually.

‘In my six or seven years of living in Sydney, my address is listed in Victoria.’

Their admission comes days after an Instagram rant about our photographer on Wednesday night, in which they seemed to admit they’d been papped outside their place of residence.

‘To the paparazzo who followed me home, stood outside my building and then proceeded to try and take my picture of me entering my building without me noticing, I want to say a few things,’ their post began.

A PR also told us they believed Azzopardi lived at the accommodation, saying: ‘I’ve been sending them packages there for years.’

The same day they were photographed at home, Azzopardi was also caught on camera urinating in the street in between glitzy fashion shows.

‘I don’t think I ever actually urinated,’ they said when asked about the footage.

‘If I did, it would have been because I was literally busting.’
