Black Sabbath Rocker Ozzy Osbourne Has Died, Aged 76

Black Sabbath rocker and heavy metal icon Ozzy Osbourne has died, aged 76.

His death was confirmed by his family in a statement on Wednesday morning, local time.

“It is with more sadness than mere words can convey that we have to report that our beloved Ozzy Osbourne has passed away this morning,” the statement read.

“He was with his family and surrounded by love. We ask everyone to respect our family privacy at this time.”

While the family did not share his cause of death, Ozzy had been open with his ill health and many medical treatments over the last few years. In 2020, he was diagnosed with Parkinson’s and in 2022, he had back surgery to treat issues from a fall he had in 2019.

“You wake up the next morning and find that something else has gone wrong. You begin to think this is never going to end,” he said in May 2025, per The Guardian.

The sad news of the musician’s death comes three weeks after the rocker reunited with the original Black Sabbath lineup for a farewell concert to usher in Ozzy’s retirement from performing. It was the first time since 2005 that the band had performed together, delighting fans around the world.

The rock legend, who was known as the ‘Prince of Darkness’, has had an interesting run in the public eye. In the music world, he was an eccentric innovator whose musical influence has helped shape heavy metal today.

In pop culture, Ozzy was known for his wild on-stage antics. Most famously, he bit the head off a bat on stage. In Ozzy’s private life, he struggled with addiction.

In his later years, Ozzy, along with his wife Sharon and two of his six children Kelly and Jack, starred in a reality series based on their lives called The Osbournes. The series made the family bizarre yet beloved pop culture figures.

Rest in peace, Ozzy.
