Major airport evacuated over security threat – as passengers are left in limbo after dozens of flights are cancelled without warning

Passengers have been evacuated from Rockhampton Airport due to an incident, with flights unable to land on the runway.

Officers from Queensland Police Service were called to respond to an incident at the major regional airport on Wednesday.

‘As a precaution the premises has been evacuated,’ a spokesperson told the Daily Mail.

‘All outgoing flights have been suspended, and all incoming flights have been diverted until further notice.’

Rockhampton Regional Mayor Tony Williams published a statement on social media, confirming council is aware of an incident.

‘Anyone travelling is advised to contact their airline directly,’ he said.

Virgin Australia is aware of a terminal evacuation, with only one flight VA1245 from Brisbane to Rockhampton currently held on the ground in Brisbane pending further information.

At this stage, no flights have been cancelled and customers have been asked for their patience.
