Iranian-American Democrat shares disgust at own party’s condemnation of Trump over Ayatollah killing

An Iranian-American Democrat has condemned the party for their hand-wringing following Donald Trump’s attack on Iran.

Moj Mahdara, who uses they/them pronouns, called on their fellow liberals to ‘wake up’ while appearing on CNN over the weekend after the death of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

Mahdara, who co-founded The Iranian Diaspora Collective, said: ‘It is imperative the Democratic Party wake up and get past their dislike of President Trump, and their feelings of international conflicts going on.

‘This is about national security. This is about what is possible in the Middle East.  This is about being a good neighbor, good partner to the Gulf States and what their aspirations are.’

Mahdara went on to link the death of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei as being as important as the toppling of the Berlin Wall which signified the end of the Soviet Union.

They said: ‘This is a transformational moment for humankind, for security, and, as an American, this is in our interest to complete it.’

In a subsequent post to Instagram, Mahdara added: ‘I feel like the Democratic party has failed me. Wake up ? It’s not too late.’

Mahdara made the comments while speaking with Dana Bash, who also spoke to Iranian-American journalist Masiah Alinejad who directly called out New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani.

Alinejad said: ‘Yesterday I took to the streets, my sisters. I hugged every single American because I was heartbroken when I saw Mamdani’s tweet sympathizing with the Islamic Republic. No single word condemning the massacre.’

‘I took to New York, I said, “This beautiful city, New York saved my life.” New York is my city. I need to hug my people. I need to talk to them.

‘Left people, right people, Trump supporters, Democrats, they all hugged me. When it comes to support the lives of innocent people, America is united.

‘The time [has] come for politicians, Republicans, Democrats, to be united for human rights, for global security.’

Mayor Mamdani posted to X over the weekend saying: ‘Today’s military strikes on Iran – carried out by the United States and Israel – mark a catastrophic escalation in an illegal war of aggression.

‘Bombing cities. Killing civilians. Opening a new theater of war. Americans do not want this.

‘They do not want another war in pursuit of regime change. They want relief from the affordability crisis. They want peace.’

Alinejad replied to him on X saying: ‘You stayed quiet when we have faced massacre, when Islamic Republic assassins were sent here in New York to kill us, stay quiet now.

‘STOP lecturing us Iranians about peace. I don’t feel safe in New York listening to someone like you, Mamdani, who sympathizes with the regime that killed more than 30,000 unarmed Iranians in less than 24 hours.’

Airstrikes have continued to rain down across the region as Iran’s President Masoud Pezeshkian branded the Supreme Leader’s killing a ‘declaration of war against Muslims.’

The country has raised its so-called ‘Red Flag of Revenge’ and has vowed to hit the US and Israel with a ‘force never experienced before.’

Iran has retaliated with a series of strikes across its neighboring Gulf states, with explosions in Qatar, Israel, Bahrain, Kuwait, Iraq, Oman and Saudi Arabia.

The Pentagon said Monday morning that the death toll among American service members has risen to four.

Just a day earlier, the administration confirmed that three U.S. troops had been killed in fighting with Iranian forces.

The rising death toll comes after Trump told the Daily Mail in an exclusive interview over the phone on Sunday that fighting with Iran could go on for the next four weeks.

‘It’s always been a four-week process. We figured it will be four weeks or so. It’s always been about a four-week process so – as strong as it is, it’s a big country, it’ll take four weeks – or less,’ Trump said.
