Tragic update after three-year-old girl killed by car in driveway as 27-year-old is charged
A man has been charged over the death of a three-year-old girl after she was hit by a 4WD in western Sydney.
Emergency services were called to Normanby Road in Auburn shortly after 2pm on Tuesday following reports a child had been hit by a car while playing in a driveway.
The girl was rushed to Westmead Hospital in a critical condition, where she died several hours later.
The male driver, 27, was uninjured and was taken to Auburn Hospital for mandatory testing.
He was then taken to Auburn Police Station, where he was charged with negligent driving occasioning death.
He was bailed to appear in Burwood Local Court on Wednesday.
It is understood that the man is not related to the girl.
His relationship with the occupants of the home, and the circumstances leading to the crash, remain under investigation.

Forensic officers examined a black Range Rover at the tragic scene
Police spent much of Tuesday afternoon in the cordoned-off street as they examined the crime scene.
Forensic officers were seen closely examining and photographing a Range Rover parked in the driveway.
Shocked neighbours said that the little girl often played outside with her older brother.
‘Sometimes I’m walking and I saw them, they’re very happy,’ one woman told the ABC.
‘It’s very sad because I’m a mother, so I hear the girl dying is very sad.’
The neighbour was on her balcony when she heard a loud bang, followed by shouting.
‘I saw her mother very worried and crying,’ she said.
A report will be prepared for the coroner.
