Mikel Arteta set for bumper new contract that will make him one of world’s BEST-paid managers – as Arsenal boss targets £80m Premier League striker after title triumph

Arsenal are set to reward Mikel Arteta with a lucrative contract for ending the club’s 22-year Premier League title drought, which would place him among the world’s best-paid managers.

Arteta’s current deal expires next summer, with talks on extending his contract having been put on hold while the north London club finish their season.

Having secured the league title on Tuesday night, the Spaniard now has his eyes on next Saturday’s Champions League final against Paris Saint-Germain — a trophy Arsenal have never won and would complete the club’s greatest season in their 140-year history.

It’s understood that the Gunners were always confident in keeping Arteta, even if they didn’t win a trophy this season.

His contract is believed to be worth about £10million a season plus a £5m bonus for reaching the Champions League, but Arteta will be offered a large salary increase to rival the wages of any manager in the world.

The 44-year-old became the second-youngest manager to win the league, after Jose Mourinho with Chelsea in 2004.

Atletico Madrid’s Diego Simeone is reportedly the highest-paid at £25.9m a year, while Manchester City’s Pep Guardiola receives an estimated £20m annually.

Meanwhile, Arsenal are closing in on the most lucrative season in their history which sets them up for a big-spending summer transfer window.

The Arsenal boss is targeting a move for Bournemouth’s forward sensation Eli Junior Kroupi this summer, as he looks to strengthen his side further.

Kroupi scored the goal that sealed the deal for Arsenal as Bournemouth held City to a 1-1 draw on Tuesday, and it’s thought that the Cherries will ask for £80m if he is to move.

The 19-year-old has scored the most goals for a teenager in his debut season in the Premier League, scoring his 13th against City, and has changed agent ahead of the summer.

Aside from broadcast and commercial revenues, the Premier League pays each a club a league ranking bonus based on where they finish in the table. Last season, champions Liverpool received £53.1m.

Football finance expert Kieran Maguire told Daily Mail Sport that Arsenal may get a slight decrease on the sum because the league’s overheads have increased this season.

Though it is in Europe where the Gunners can really cash in. The north London club have already raked in £124m for getting to the Champions League final.

If they were to win, Arsenal would bank another £5.6m and a spot in the UEFA Super Cup — a annual cup match held in August between the winners of the Champions League and Europa League.

Winning that would add an extra £9.5m income, and a spot in the 2029 Club World Cup — a tournament Chelsea netted £80m from winning last year.

On top of this, Arsenal’s sponsors such as adidas and Emirates have clauses in relation to the Champions League which would be activated.

Maguire said: ‘Sponsorship brands like Emirates would love to put their brand next to a European trophy. Everyone wants to be near success. For Emirates and adidas, those clauses alone could £8m each for winning the Champions League.’

The Gunners are actively looking for a left winger in the summer to bolster their squad.
