New details of 39-year-old gym teacher’s trysts with student, 17, from Valentine’s Day cookie to winter ball flowers as her texts about their relationship revealed

New details have emerged about the alleged sordid relationship between a gym teacher and her student that rocked a small Rhode Island town.

Alisha Crins, now 40, resigned from her job as a physical education and health teacher at Ponaganset High School in Glocester last year after she was accused of sexually assaulting a student, with the alleged abuse beginning when he was a sophomore.

She was formally charged earlier this year with two counts of third-degree sexual assault and pleaded not guilty.

Text messages and police interviews with various witnesses in an arrest report obtained by WPRI paint a detailed picture of the disturbing alleged relationship between the former teacher and her student.

The report revealed that Crins’s former student filed a sexual harassment complaint the same day she resigned in October of last year. He was 17 at the time of filing and had graduated in spring 2024.

Suspicious interactions detailed in the report include a ‘cookie incident,’ when the victim tried to send Crins a Valentine’s Day cookie, according to teachers questioned by police.

Teachers also told police that the victim gave his former teacher a bouquet of flowers at the winter ball in January 2024. The unusual behavior was reported to the principal and vice principals, but Crins was never formally reprimanded.

The report included a conversation the former teacher had with friends over text in a group chat, in which Crins admitted to ‘sexting’ the teenager and said, ‘I just can’t believe I f***ed up this bad.’

She said that she was forced to resign after texts between herself and the student were shown to the superintendent and her husband.

Crins is a mother-of-two who is now twice-divorced. Her second husband, Jeffrey Crins, filed for the divorce after she resigned last year.

The group chat texts gave some insight into how he was feeling at the time. ‘He hates me – disgusted,’ she wrote.

Crins told her friends that ‘nothing happened physically’ with the former student, but the arrest report alleges that the illicit relationship included kissing and ‘rubbing.’

According to the report, police interviewed Crins at her home in October, and a detective explained that the age of consent in Rhode Island is 16.

‘I knew that, I teach health,’ the former teacher reportedly replied.

She then allegedly admitted to sending messages to her victim that were ‘inappropriate like sexting text messages.’

‘Like talking about like having sex or like when he turns 18,’ the former teacher added, according to the report. ‘There were things I agreed to but never acted on it.’

She said that she had sent the student pictures of herself in lingerie while he was still in high school and only sent nude photos after he had graduated.

And she allegedly admitted that in April 2024, the student drove to her neighborhood and they kissed in his car, where she straddled him in the back seat.

That was the second instance of physicality according to a previous incident detailed in her arrest affidavit.

‘I can’t believe I’m going to do this… You can’t tell anybody,’ she told the teenager before kissing him for almost 15 minutes in his car, parked on a side street, according to the affidavit.

She later texted him a flurry of messages, saying she couldn’t ‘stop thinking about him’ or his lips, that he was a good kisser, the affidavit added.

Some of the more dramatic and visible moments in the alleged relationship between Crins and her victim are said to have taken place at school dances during the student’s senior year.

The former teacher was seen dancing with the boy when he was 17 by other students and teachers at prom.

‘They were the talk of the school,’ one student told the Daily Mail in March. ‘She was slow dancing with him. It was kind of like she was his prom date. It was just slow dancing, but everyone saw it.’

At a different school dance, the teacher and student even wore matching outfits, according to the former classmate.

‘She wore a black dress with sequins. He wore a black suit, black shirt with a chain.’

The arrest report reviewed by WPRI details the disciplinary measures, or lack thereof, faced by Crins after the suspicious behavior at school dances was reported to higher ups.

In October of last year, state police interviewed the high school’s principal, Amanda Grundel, and vice principals Patricia Hill and Karlene Murray.

Grundel told police that there were ‘not disciplinary actions, just meetings or interactions.’

She said that after Crins was seen dancing with her victim at the winter ball, one of the chaperones reported the incident.

The principal said that she did not witness the dancing herself and did not receive any other complaint, but that she still spoke to Crins about the issue. She told police that she did not formally document the complaint.

Another teacher interviewed by police said that there was a faculty meeting after the winter ball during which, ‘Teachers were told “You don’t touch students, you don’t dance with students, you don’t take photos with students.”‘

Grundel also recounted another teacher complaining that Crins ‘spent an excessive amount of time’ with a student while she was assigned to monitor the hallways.

The principal once again informally addressed the complaint with Crins and told her: ‘When you are on duty, you know, if a student comes over and says “hello” you have to send them back to class in a timely fashion,’ the report stated.

Crins was arraigned in February and released on a $10,000 personal recognizance that included conditions such as surrendering her passport. Her case is ongoing.

The Foster-Glocester Regional School Committee released a statement on Thursday that said: ‘As consistently stated over the past seven months, the district has been cooperating with the attorney general and state police, and is now prepared to move forward with an investigation.’

The Daily Mail has reached out to the Foster-Glocester Regional School District superintendent and Crins for comment.
