Mayhem in New York as Knicks fans climb street poles and an ambulance to celebrate Game 1 upset of Spurs

New York Knicks fans from across the five boroughs celebrated their team’s Game 1 victory in the NBA Finals on Tuesday night as raucous revelers took to the streets.

The Knicks won their first Finals game in 27 years as they put up a 14-point comeback to beat the San Antonio Spurs on the road.

Back in New York, fans erupted into celebration outside Madison Square Garden after the NYPD lifted a ban on watch parties outside The World’s Most Famous Arena.

There was also an event held inside the building where Knicks fans watched on the stadium’s jumbotron.

Following the victory, videos showed New York fans shutting down Seventh Avenue as they went through the streets celebrating.

One video captured fans climbing on top of an ambulance that tried to make its way through the masses. Another showed a Knicks fan climbing up a light pole, only for the man to be immediately arrested by police.

Knick fans had plenty to celebrate after their team mounted a 14-point comeback to beat the Spurs 105-95 in Texas.

Jalen Brunson battled through a pair of injuries to drop 30 points to lead all scorers on Wednesday night.

Spurs star Victor Wembanyama attempted a comeback by rallying in the second half, but a late turnover followed by a missed triple iced the game for the Knicks.

Fans will watch from afar again when the Knicks tip off Game 2 on Friday night, hoping to take a 2-0 series lead back to New York.
