Savannah Guthrie tears up on TODAY show over new ransom note revelations in missing mom Nancy’s case

Savannah Guthrie made an emotional plea on Tuesday’s Today show for help in the search to find her missing mother, Nancy, following a troubling update yesterday.

Guthrie, 54, kept a brave face as she urged viewers with any information to come forward, crying at points after reporter Liz Kreutz recounted new details related to the case.

On Monday, it was revealed a ransom note the family received back in February claimed the senior was dead. The Today team played a clip of Guthrie and her siblings’ video message to Instagram that was posted the day after.

‘We beg you now to return our mother to us, so that we can celebrate with her. This is the only way we will have peace. This is very valuable to us, and we will pay,’ Guthrie said at the time.

Footage of the anchor telling costar Hoda Kotb how she believed the ‘two ransom notes [the family] received and responded to’ in February were ‘real’ back in March followed.

Kreutz warned that the ‘new’ details were not the big break the family has been looking for, leaving Guthrie to react.

‘I love you guys and I love this place, and this is unusual and unprecedented to say the least to be sitting here, but you know, I don’t have any comment on this story, and I’m not involved in our coverage,’ she told her costars, visibly emotional.

‘But I can’t pretend I’m not here.

‘So, since I am, I just want to take the opportunity to ask people to really to beg people to come forward – somebody knows something,’ she continued, turning to viewers.

She reminded them how this may be just ‘a new story today that is on your radar, but this is the life that my sister lives, I live, my brother lives, that our extended families live, that our children live every day.’

‘And we are in agony,’ she added.

Guthrie explained how her family ‘cannot be at peace, no matter how much I try to come out here every day and smile and find that joy’ as the investigation currently stands.

‘And I will, I promise I will,’ Guthrie said.

‘This is the moment to tell you that we need your help.

‘We’re begging for your help. I’m not going to miss that opportunity.

‘And so please, if you’re watching, no matter how small the reward is there, you can tell us. It can be anonymous.

‘Please do the right thing for us, for our family, for our children,’ she pleaded. Guthrie’s cohosts comforted her as she spoke. The segment ended there.

Nancy was last seen at her home in Tucson, Arizona, on January 31. The anchor stepped away from the Today desk for the first several months of the search. She has since returned to Studio 1A – a development she has described as bitter-sweet.

‘I cry every morning on the way to work,’ she told cohost Jenna Bush Hager while filling in for the show’s third hour earlier this month.

She urged viewers to use her situation to realize ‘you can hold all of these things together’

‘We can hold our sadness and we can hold our joy and if you don’t believe it, just watch me. I’m going to show you,’ she said.

She also thanked staffers for fostering such a ‘beautiful’ and ‘supportive’ environment since her return in April.
