Boat overturns near Statue of Liberty as woman and child airlifted in critical condition and a dozen others rescued from water
A boat has overturned near the Statue of Liberty, prompting a massive emergency response and the rescue of dozens.
Multiple victims plunged into the water, and two victims, believed to be a woman and a child, were airlifted to the hospital in critical condition, police sources told local ABC affiliate WABC.
Reports of the incident came in just before 10.30pm on Saturday, and multiple units, including FDNY, Harbor, Scuba and Aviation, responded to the scene.
Divers with the New York Police Department were also seen in the water rescuing the victims.
Footage of the scene showed multiple emergency vessels in the water flashing lights.
