Infamous Lorena Bobbitt case to be turned into Hulu miniseries… 33 years after housewife severed her husband’s manhood
One of the most infamous criminal cases of the 1990s will form the basis of a new miniseries at Hulu.
Lorena Bobbitt made headlines around the world when she cut off her husband’s penis with a knife and dumped it in a field.
She claimed John Bobbitt, whom she’d married in 1989, had raped and abused her for years and she’d acted in self-defense.
He denied her claims of domestic violence.
Now the producers of Good American Family, one of whom is Grey’s Anatomy star Ellen Pompeo, are revisiting the June 1993 incident and the trials that followed, Deadline reported Wednesday.
It follows the successful first season of the true crime show that highlighted the story of a Ukrainian-born girl with dwarfism Natalia Grace who was adopted by an American family and abandoned three years later amid claims she was, in fact, an adult.

The Daily Mail has reached out to Pompeo’s rep for comment but did not immediately hear back.
According to Variety, the anthology limited is ‘inspired by the ripped-from-the-headlines story of Lorena and John Bobbitt, a Virginia couple who incited a media circus that treated trauma as entertainment, launched a thousand dirty jokes, and ignited a gender war.’
Lorena, who now goes by her birth name Gallo, was charged with malicious wounding following the attack but ultimately was found not guilty by reason of insanity.
She subsequently spent 45 days in a Virginia psychiatric facility.
John was tried for marital sexual assault and acquitted of rape by a jury in November 1993.
His severed penis had been recovered by law enforcement and successfully reattached during a nine-hour surgery in the aftermath of the incident.
The couple finalized their divorce in 1995.

Lorena, 57, set up the Lorena Gallo Foundation in 2018 which seeks ‘to expand domestic violence and sexual assault prevention education, emergency response resources and community engagement activities that will improve outcomes for survivors and their children.’
She lives in Washington, DC with her partner and their daughter.
