Middle school teacher shares the once-beloved fashion trends that are now declared OUT by Gen Alpha
A Las Vegas teacher has revealed the once-beloved fashion trends that are now considered to be ‘out’ among Gen Alpha – and the clothing items that are now surging in popularity.
As a middle school teacher, Natalia Garcia sees firsthand what pre-teens and teens are wearing, and she has been tracking the trends amongst her students for the past few years.
Garcia, 25, started a series on TikTok in 2024 detailing the style fads that she noticed taking over her school, and she even interviewed some of her students about them.
And this year, she’s already noticed that some trends that were popular last year are now out the window.
‘[My students] told me that Crocs are kind of leaving, and Birkenstocks are taking over,’ Garcia shared in a new video.
She said she also noticed that long jean shorts – also known as ‘jorts’ – had become a mainstay in the hallways.
‘Jorts are still very much in,’ she said.
‘I’m starting to see different types of jorts, [like] sweat jorts, cargo jorts, not just the typical jean ones,’ she added.

Another current craze amongst her students is baggy clothes, which is a style that she doesn’t see going anywhere.
‘They are super into baggy T-shirts, baggy jeans, baggy whatever,’ Garcia said.
In addition to Birkenstocks when it comes to footwear, she revealed that Adidas Sambas are also having a moment.
‘Sambas are still very much in, and I don’t see them leaving,’ she shared.
‘I see, probably, every other kid wearing them, and I’m starting to see a lot of different colorways than just the typical white-and-black ones.’
It seems like things have changed a lot since she posted her first few videos on the topic years ago, when Adidas Campus sneakers and Converse were the most popular shoes.
Crocs and Vans were also up there at the time.
However, it’s not just her students’ style that she has been noticing over the past few weeks as she also noted that kids’ hobbies have changed, too.

Last year, she said that her students were obsessed with ‘gambling games,’ like Blackjack and Roulette, as well as tiny, decorative ducks.
‘Some kids buy them in bulk and then hide them around the school,’ Garcia said of the ducks last year.
This year, however, she said those fads are already considered to be ‘uncool.’
Garcia revealed that the online video game Fortnite seemed to be more popular than ever among her students, as well as squishy toys to fidget with.
‘They love squishies, and I’m talking all kinds of squishies,’ Garcia said in the video.
‘Homemade squishies, NeeDoh, the big, giant butter squishies, carrots, these little babies that look so weird and are squishy. They’re just obsessed with squishies.’
Thankfully, the school year has just begun – and Garcia will continue to keep her followers updated on the quick-changing trends around her hallways.
