Influencer Mikayla Nogueira breaks down in tears as she reveals real reason she divorced Cody Hawken

Influencer Mikayla Nogueira has spoken out for the first time about why she and ex-husband Cody Hawken divorced.

The TikTok star, 28, laid bare the relationship breakdown on the On Purpose With Jay Shetty podcast on Monday.

Nogueira and Hawken wed in a lavish ceremony in July 2023 – after less than two years of dating – but eventually split in February of this year.

The former couple finalized their divorce in July but Nogueira initially refused to share the reason for the split in order to ‘protect’ Hawken.

At the time, she said their split was amicable and requested that fans leave his past struggles with addiction ‘out of the conversation’ – but she is now revealing all.

The content creator, who boasts more than 17.5 million followers on TikTok alone, told Shetty explicit details of how her career and Hawken’s history with addiction led to their marriage failing.

Taking listeners back to the start of the relationship, Nogueira explained that when she and Hawken first met on Tinder in 2020, her career had started ‘blowing up.’

For his part, Hawken had recently relocated to Massachusetts, where he was in rehab for substance abuse.

‘He’s freshly sober, he’s confident about life, he’s feeling good, and he wants to share it with someone,’ Nogueira said.

‘We were both really in this same exact position of going through a massive change and wanting to share it with someone.’

But it soon became clear that Hawken ‘really struggled’ with being thrust into the spotlight due to her rising notoriety.

‘I don’t think he or I understood the scale of what was going to be,’ Nogueira shared.

‘He was very, very supportive and open to it. But I think he very quickly realized that it was a lot more challenging than he thought.’

Nogueira herself admitted that she was battling ‘immense pain and suffering’ from online criticism for her beauty content.

She revealed that it left her ‘very detached’ and ‘very passive’ as she detailed how she was not a ‘good partner.’

‘He could be by my side and support me and try to help me through it, but he couldn’t physically do anything,’ Nogueira said. ‘He struggled a lot with that and so did I.’

Nogueira then broke down in tears as she revealed that Hawken had relapsed multiple times during their marriage and said that his near-fatal overdose ultimately led to their split.

‘When you’re with an addict, one of the things you worry about is, “Will you wake up and they’ll be there in the bed?”‘ she explained. ‘And one night, I woke up and he wasn’t in the bed.’

Nogueira found Hawken at 1am ‘completely hunched over, unconscious,’ adding: ‘He just [kept] falling over, drool and foam coming out of his mouth. And he’s not waking up.’

She called the police after suspecting he had overdosed and an ambulance came to their home.

‘He ended up being okay, but that moment was so scary,’ the Point of View (POV) Beauty brand owner added, ‘It just traumatizes you.’

Nogueira said that she ‘didn’t know who Cody was anymore’ during their last year of marriage and she soon realized that she could not give him the support he needed.

She explained that she ‘failed as a partner to Cody, but he failed me too.’

‘I was too early in my career and too young to understand what marriage is. Cody was too early in his sobriety journey and also too young at the time to be looking for a partner,’ Nogueira continued.

‘That is essentially what led to me deciding we needed to get a divorce.’

On Monday, after the podcast was released, Hawken wrote in a post on X: ‘Time answers all questions. I am ready and willing to move on in my life.’

And, earlier today, he added: ‘A little much, if you ask me.’

It was not clear whether he was responding to Nogueira’s interview.

The Daily Mail has reached out to Hawken for further comment.
