Florida mailman busted for DUI while on the job was allegedly almost 3x over the limit, police say

A Florida mailman has been arrested for allegedly driving under the influence while on the job, according to police.
Eliezer Valcourt, 32, is accused of being nearly three times over the legal limit when he was stopped in his U.S. Postal Service truck by Fort Lauderdale Police on Tuesday night, local outlet WSVN reported, citing an arrest report.
Fort Lauderdale Police told The Independent that they received a traffic complaint at around 8 p.m. “The caller reported a marked United States Postal Service vehicle stopped in the roadway with the driver inside,” police said.
Calls were coming in that the truck’s driver had been screaming while driving down the road, the arrest report said.
Police told The Independent that when they showed up, Valcourt “appeared to be intoxicated,” and a DUI officer was called to conduct an investigation. Before the cops stopped Valcourt’s truck, he nearly hit an officer, according to the arrest report.
Valcourt allegedly appeared unsteady on his feet with glassy, watery eyes and drooping eyelids, the report said. He was also allegedly slurring his speech, and the DUI officer reported a strong smell of alcohol on his breath.
Before starting a sobriety test, Valcourt stopped to pull a toothbrush out of his pocket and brush his teeth, according to the report. The DUI officer reported seeing seven of eight possible clues while Valcourt was completing a walk-and-turn exercise and said that he nearly fell at the end.
Valcourt told police he had been working since 9 a.m. and was almost done with his route. He reportedly denied drinking.
The mailman was arrested and booked into a local jail on two DUI-related charges. He later posted his bond and is expected to be released Wednesday night, WSVN reported.
The Independent has reached out to USPS for comment.
