‘Adolescence’ Tops Nielsen Charts; ‘The White Lotus’ & ‘Severance’ Reach New Series High Weekly Viewership

It should come as no surprise that Netflix’s Adolescence shot to the top of the Nielsen charts during the week of March 17 to March 23, when it racked up 1.44B in its first full week on the streamer.
Adolescence saw its watch time increase 59% over its debut weekend, per Nielsen, with adults 35-64 making up 56% of the audience.
Notably, The Residence came in second place after debuting on March 20, managing 1.36B minutes viewed. As Deadline previously reported, this was a modest start for Shonda Rhimes’ latest foray, given the popularity of Bridgerton and Inventing Anna. Although it’s not far behind Adolescencethe run time of The Residence is far greater, which inflates watch time metrics that Nielsen reports.
Reacher fell to fourth place on the overall charts with 1.13B minutes viewed and was also the only other streaming original in the Top 5.
However, there were still some other notable streaming series wins, including new weekly high of 876M minutes viewed for Severance with the release of the Season 2 finale. The White Lotus also secured a new program record with 973M minutes viewed in this interval.
Also, Max’s The Pitt made its Top 10 Originals debut after coming in just shy of the threshold the past few weeks. This interval, it had 466M minutes viewed.
On the film side, Moana 2 and Wicked were the ones to beat. The Disney sequel has been dominating since it landed on streaming and this week was no exception, with the film raking in another 1.13B minutes viewed. Wicked came in second among films with 905M minutes.
