Aim to build tech-enabled, future ready army: Gen Dhiraj Seth

NEW DELHI: Identifying modernisation of the army as a key aim of his tenure, the new Army Chief Gen Dhiraj Seth said on Wednesday that the aim is to promote the domestic industry and ensure that “we win our wars with indigenous solutions”.

Speaking after taking over the top post, General Seth said he will promote innovation in doctrine and technological solutions, and ensure that necessary transformations were undertaken, keeping in mind the changing character of warfare.

“To respond effectively to the evolving security environment, we must take forward the modernisation of the Army with renewed energy and firm resolve. Our aim is to build a technology-enabled, future-ready Army which is fully empowered and capable of operating across multiple domains,” the Army chief said.

Gen Seth, who earlier served as the Vice Chief of Army Staff and has led modernisation efforts of the armed forces in previous postings, also laid emphasis on jointness and coordination with the Indian Air Force and Navy to meet national objectives.

“To enhance the operational effectiveness of the Indian Army, we will maintain complete synergy and coordination with the Indian Air Force and the Indian Navy. I fully recognise that national security is not limited to military strength alone. It requires military-civil fusion and a Whole-of-Nation approach,” he said.

Mentioning the need for constant vigil on the borders against emerging threats, he said the Army will ensure a high level of operational readiness.
