Beautiful young mom appeared to have it all. Now her two toddlers are dead after falling into a pool while on COCAINE… and her own parents allegedly made very troubling comments about her

Holding her daughter on her lap surrounded by pumpkins on an adorable autumn outing, Laura Nicholson was a picture-perfect young mom.

Her youngest child, Kelsey Kite, blew out the candles on her second birthday cake in January in just the latest sweet snap with her three-year-old sister Kinsley.

Just four weeks later, both little girls were found floating in their horrified grandmother’s pool in the Houston suburb of Katy on February 11.

Their deaths were initially thought to be a tragic accident until autopsy toxicology results found cocaine and its metabolite benzoylecgonine in their blood.

Nicholson, 23, was charged with two counts of injury to a child on May 8 and arrested by a fugitive taskforce at a mental health facility near Fort Myers, Florida, on Monday.

Whether she was on the run from police or coincidentally in Florida is unclear, but a violent criminals apprehension team was dispatched to bring her in.

How the girls were exposed to cocaine is a mystery, and Nicholson’s indictment did not provide any answers.

Pathologist John Constanza, who did the autopsies, listed both drowning and cocaine toxicity as causes of death for Kinsley and Kelsey.

He said cocaine could have caused the girls’ deaths on its own, but he ‘could not rule out or confirm death from drowning’.

Nicholson was investigated by the Department of Family Services last year about drug allegations and in an interview with the agency after the girls’ deaths, her mother ‘accused [Nicholson] of using cocaine,’ according to the indictment.

The little girls are believed to have crept through the back patio door and fallen into the in-ground pool, Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said.

Nicholson told police at the time that the lock on the door had been broken for two days and the girls ‘are always getting out and running to the pool’.

The pool is surrounded by a wooden picket fence, as seen in footage of the backyard, and the indictment did not explain how the girls fell into the water

Homeowners with swimming pools are required to have a locked fence or gate surrounding the perimeter of the area, under Texas law.

Nicholson’s father, David Nicholson, told police his granddaughters were happily playing inside the house when he returned home from work about 8.30am.

He played with the girls in the living room and helped them eat before going upstairs to bed about 9.30am.

His wife, Catherine Nicholson, went grocery shopping at about the same time and told police their daughter was sleeping on the couch when she left.

Catherine got home at about 11am to find the back door ajar. She saw Kinsley and Kelsey in the pool when she went outside.

Her screams woke Nicholson and her father, and brought neighbors running to their yard, one of whom called 911.

David and others did CPR on the girls but were not able to revive them.

When sheriff’s deputies arrived, they found paramedics attempting to save the girls. They were soon rushed by helicopter to a nearby hospital where they died.

Nicholson appeared to have slept the entire time her mother was out and her father was sleeping, and the indictment did not mention anyone waking her.

David told police his daughter was fit to be a mother, but that ‘she falls asleep a lot and this causes issues’.

He refused to comment on the charges against his daughter when contacted by the Daily Mail at the junk removal business he runs with his son Dylan.

Nicholson lived at her parents’ house for about a year before her daughters were killed, after breaking up with their father, Corey Kite.

Kite, who runs a small jewelry business, was last seen in Nicholson’s photos with his daughters at Kinsley’s Disney-themed second birthday party in September 2024.

The couple were still together that June when she wished him a happy Father’s Day, and he was present at Kelsey’s birth in January 2024.

‘I have no words other than I’m trying. Hard. I’m trying to take life day by day while mourning the loss of my two youngest daughters,’ Kite wrote online in the weeks after his daughters drowned.

‘I’m trying to grieve and heal at the same time. I’m trying to be grateful and accepting of the large support group that I have and I can’t thank everyone enough for all of the kind words, gifts, and donations to help alleviate some of this agony.’

Kite did not respond to Daily Mail’s questions about Nicholson’s arrest.

The girls were laid to rest after a funeral on March 7, which was partially financed by a fundraiser set up by their relative Jennifer Nicholson.

‘This money did not go to Laura. It went to Corey, the father, and went to the girls funeral,’ Jennifer wrote on Wednesday.

‘I paused donations when I saw that the news was acknowledging the go fund me after the arrest.’

They raised almost $14,000 before it was paused.

‘Kinsley and Kelsey were not just siblings; they were beacons of joy, lighting the way for friends and family alike with their everlasting smiles,’ the girls’ obituary read.

‘Their laughter echoed in the lives they touched, and their playful spirits filled rooms with happiness, reminding us all of the beauty found in simple pleasures.’

Nicholson is in the Lee County Jail awaiting extradition to Houston, where prosecutors asked for $100,000 bail.
