“Bharat ne Pakistan ke seene par vaar kiya”: PM Modi on India halting neighbour’s cross-border plans

“Pakistan ki tayyari seema par vaar ki thi lekin Bharat ne Pakistan ke seene par vaar kar diya,” Prime Minister Narendra Modi declared on Monday during his address to the nation. The statement set the tone for a strong and direct message to Pakistan following India’s cross-border military operation named Operation Sindoor. The Prime Minister confirmed that while the operation has been paused, India remains watchful.Modi said, “We have just paused our attacks on the terrorist and military sites of Pakistan,” adding that terrorists could never have imagined that India would take such a bold step.

He added, “I want to congratulate and salute our security forces,” highlighting that the Indian Armed Forces have delivered a clear and effective message.

“No nuclear blackmail will be tolerated”

Responding to concerns over Pakistan’s nuclear posture, the Prime Minister stated, “No nuclear blackmail will be tolerated anymore.” Modi made it clear that India’s response to terrorism would not be constrained by threats.

He warned, “Terrorist attack on India will have to face a befitting reply, and the response will be on our terms.”

The Prime Minister’s remarks underscored a shift in India’s strategic posture — one that does not bow to intimidation.

Operation Sindoor: India’s precision response to terror

Operation Sindoor was launched on 7 May after the brutal killing of Indian tourists by terrorists in Pahalgam on 22 April. The government said the mission targeted nine terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK), based on precise intelligence inputs.

Over 100 terrorists were eliminated in strikes that Indian officials described as “measured, non-escalatory, proportionate and responsible.” The operation was carried out in line with India’s zero-tolerance policy on terrorism.

In his address, PM Modi said, “Aatankiyo ne hamari behano ka Sindoor ujada tha isliye Bharat ne aatank ke headquarters ujaad diye.” He added that “Operation Sindoor was not just a name,” and that the enemy has now understood the cost of desecrating the dignity of Indian women.

India’s conditions: Terror first, talks later

The Prime Minister ruled out dialogue unless terrorism is addressed, stating: “If there will be talks between India and Pakistan, it will only be on terrorism and Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (PoK)…India’s stand has been clear, terror, trade and talks cannot be done together.”

On the spiritual significance of the day, Modi noted, “Today is Buddha Purnima, Lord Buddha showed us the path of peace. ‘Shaanti ka maarg bhi Shakti se hokar jata hai’.”

Pakistan’s terror legacy called out

Modi described the terrorist hubs in Pakistan as global threats. “When Indian missiles and drones attacked those sites in Pakistan, it was not just the buildings of the terrorist organisations but their courage also shook,” he said.

“Terrorist sites like Bhawalpur and Muridke were the universities of global terrorism,” he continued, adding, “All big terrorist attacks in the world, including 9/11 or big terrorist attacks in India, are somehow or the other connected to these terrorist sites.”

He also criticised Pakistan’s military for its open support of terrorists, saying, “The world has seen that dirty truth of Pakistan when the high-ranked officers of the Army bid the slain terrorists adieu. There cannot be a bigger proof of state-sponsored terrorism.”

Defence forces jointly affirm strength

Earlier on Monday, a joint press conference was held by Army DGMO Lt Gen Rajiv Ghai, Director General Air Operations Air Marshal AK Bharti, and Director General Naval Operations Vice Admiral AN Pramod. They presented a unified message — India’s air defence remains firm, resilient and capable of repelling any further aggression from Pakistan.

India had also suspended the Indus Waters Treaty as part of its wider diplomatic and strategic measures to isolate Pakistan internationally and signal its firm stance on terrorism.

While Operation Sindoor has been paused, the message from India’s leadership is clear — this is not the end. Surveillance continues. Military preparedness remains high.

“Terrorists in their dreams could not think that India could take such a big step,” Modi said.

The operation might have stopped, but the consequences for cross-border terrorism, as India asserts, have only begun.
