An Ohio bull rider was killed at a rodeo after the animal threw him off and struck him in the chest during the event.

Jason Blake Saylor, 35, was killed on Saturday evening at the Fox Hollow Rodeo near Waynesville, a town about 20 miles south of Dayton. He was identified by loved ones on social media on Sunday.

The Clearcreek Township Police Department responded to reports of an injured rider at the event at 7.41pm, WXIX reported.

Police said that Saylor had been wearing chest protection but suffered a traumatic chest injury after he was kicked or stomped on by a bull, per the outlet.

First responders treated the bull rider at the scene before transporting him to a local hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead. Police are investigating the death as a fatal accident.

Fox Hollow Rodeo released a statement on Sunday that said: ‘Our hearts are absolutely broken following the tragic loss of one of our bull riders and brothers in Christ, last night at Fox Hollow Rodeo.

‘There are no words to express the sadness we are feeling. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends, and everyone affected by this heartbreaking tragedy.

‘Thank you to everyone for your love, prayers, and support during this difficult time.’

He had posted many photos and videos of himself bull riding at previous events and getting launched off the animals, but walking off unscathed.

His mourning loved ones expressed their grief in heartbreaking tributes posted on Facebook on Sunday.

Jake Barker, who identified himself as Saylor’s best friend, shared a post that said in part: ‘I don’t know how I’m gonna go on an never hear that belly laugh again.

‘We would laugh for hours without a breath simply from making fun of each others laugh begging one another to stop so we could breathe.

‘He was my match, we could barely best each other on quads, we could barely best each other on bulls, we could barely best each other in football, and we could barely best each other in skateboarding. He always had my number in fishing though without a doubt.

‘I am just happy an relieved he finally was sooo close to god that I know I’ll see him one day again… I love you brother, my life will never be the same without you here.’

Saylor’s girlfriend, Linsey Marie, also shared a post that said: ‘I’m still waiting on my good morning text Blake Saylor!

‘The time in my life when I had given up on love, you showed up and stole my heart! One of the things I loved most about you was your love for God.

‘This still doesn’t feel real! Knowing you’ve always said that when it’s your time to go you hope it’s doing what you love the most, riding bulls! I just wish I could hold you one last time and tell you how much I love you!’
