Citronella explosion sparks emergency response at Flinders Medical Centre as nurse is injured
A nurse has been injured after a citronella explosion at a hospital as emergency services race to the scene.
The Metropolitan Fire Service was called to Flinders Medical Centre in Bedford Park at 2.30pm on Thursday.
Initial reports suggested a chemical smell had been detected in the emergency department.
It is now understood a mental health patient brought in an item before it exploded.
The nurse has been placed in the intensive care unit with inhalation injuries.
Two fire trucks, an ambulance special operations team and police car were spotted at the scene.
MFS crews wore full gear as material was placed into yellow plastic bags and tied off.
