‘Completely unaware Paris is in ruins’: England keeper Jordan Pickford and wife Megan’s romantic 24-hour private jet break is derailed by rioting – and they had no idea it was happening!

Jordan Pickford and his partner Megan saw a romantic trip to Paris slightly disrupted by the ongoing riots in the French capital.

A weekend of widespread violence took place in the city after an initial peaceful protest on Saturday against rising living costs and poor public services turned nasty.

Reports suggested around 1,500 shops and businesses were looted and destroyed as riot police were called in, with tear gas and water cannons used on crowds.

Officials claimed around 1,000 police officers were injured on Saturday alone.

In a TikTok post titled ’24 hours in Paris with a twist’, Megan documented her trip with Jordan to see legendary singer Celine Dion in concert.

Showing the couple travelling on a private jet, the first caption of the video said: ‘Come to Paris with me and my husband. Completely unaware the capital was in ruins.’

Over the clip, the couple looked loved up as they visited various famous venues as Megan highlighted her ‘love’ of the city.

After making their way to the concert, Megan shared a couple of snippets of Dion singing.

She said she was left in ‘tears’ given how impressive the Canadian performer was, before she provided the first insight of the troubles.

At the end of Dion’s performance, she said: ‘Then when our driver picked us up he advised us to go straight to the hotel.’

That setback didn’t appear to disrupt the pair too much though as they went on to spend time in their hotel lobby, where someone was playing the harp.

Following a visit to the Notre Dame the following morning, Megan shared a snippet from their taxi ride, presumably back to the airport, before she added: ‘Thinking of all those affected.’

Earlier in the video she had mentioned that they were attending the final night of Dion’s performances in Paris.

Given this was on Saturday night, it appears the quick trip took place after Everton’s defeat by Chelsea on Saturday lunchtime, before they returned to the UK on Sunday.

Amid the chaos in France, the country’s interior minister Laurent Nunez admitted the police had ‘lost control’ in some cities.

That came despite President Emmanuel Macron’s pleas for calm as rioting and looting also spread to Milan.

In a national address following emergency talks with senior ministers, Macron made an impassioned plea ‘for unity’ and insisted everything would be done to bring thugs to justice.

The French leader pledged that ‘all the necessary lessons’ would be drawn from the ‘intelligence failures’ that ultimately led to almost 2,400 arrests over the weekend.

The Minister for Urban Affairs Vincent Jeanbrun, meanwhile, described the violence as ‘a form of insurrection’.

He said: ‘You have young people and older people who are perfectly trained in this kind of violence, this kind of urban guerrilla warfare, and this isn’t taught in school. So where is it learned?

‘In the streets of certain neighbourhoods, with shadowy forces of drug traffickers who teach our youth very early on to attack the police and to hate them.’

‘It’s a minority,’ the minister added. ‘Investigations will determine where these individuals come from.’
