Former AFL star Mark Hutchings’ partner dies just two days after giving birth to their first child: ‘I am shattered’
Mark Hutchings has announced the tragic death of his partner, Hannah.
The former West Coast Eagles player shared the heartbreaking news in an Instagram post on Thursday, revealing that Hannah had died just two days after welcoming their newborn baby girl.
‘It is with deep sadness that I share the sudden loss of my beautiful partner, Hannah, two days following the birth of our daughter, Sofia,’ the 35-year-old wrote.
‘I am shattered,’ the retired AFL footballer continued.
‘Her dream was to become a mum, so it’s been incredibly difficult to take.
‘Thank you for all of your messages of support, I can’t always reply to them all but I do appreciate them.

‘Sofia and I love you and will miss you very much, Hannah.’
The message was accompanied by images of Hannah and Mark on a beach as she cradled her baby bump.
Hutchings did not disclose Hannah’s cause of death, nor if it was related to her pregnancy.
The post was inundated with support from former teammates, friends and family.
North Melbourne forward Jack Darling, who was a teammate of Hutchings at West Coast wrote: ‘Love you Hutchy, always here for you.’
‘Been thinking of you every day, Hutch, no words will ever be enough. P️raying for you and your beautiful Sofia,’ Darling’s wife, Courtney, said.
West Coast player Bailey Williams commented with a love heart emoji, as did Jacob Blight and Jamie Cripps.

Hutchings played for the West Coast Eagles, ending his run at the end of 2021 after 120 games.
He won a premiership with the club in 2018.
After his exit from the AFL, Hutchings played for West Perth in the WAFL, before retiring from the sport in 2024.
His social media features extensive images of Hannah, with the two enjoying overseas trips and red carpet events together.
It’s unclear how long the pair were a couple, but Hannah had been appearing in Mark’s social media posts since at least 2023.
